Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the group. I am just looking for a little reassurance. My daughter gets fit for her orthotic next week, and after about two weeks to make the thing, she will be a full 8 months old before even starting. Have people on the group had good luck with starting at that age or older? She has plagio and I am really hoping to at least get the ears alingned (or at least better aligned) with the helmet. Thanks for your input.
Guest guest
Hi, My daughter, who has plagio and torticollis, started wearing her DOC band when she was 8 months and 1 week old. She is going into her seventh week and the results have been incredible. Her flat spot is barely noticeable now. The helmet also hasn't bothered her in the least. I think you have every reason to feel optimistic. Hope this helps! Best of luck! Guest guest
,My son has worn his DOC band for 9 days now. He will be 8 months on Aug 30, so maybe he's 2 weeks younger than your daughter. At our one-week check 2 days ago the orthotist said his grew 3 mm already. My husband and I thought his head was already changing, but I thought maybe we were seeing things, since it had only been 1 week. So, yes, we have had great luck so far starting at this age. Good luck.By the way, my friend stared her son at 9 months, he wore it for 3 months and his head is very nicely rounded now!On Aug 21, 2008, at 10:41 AM, Fitch wrote:Hello,I am new to the group. Guest guest
My little girl was 7.5 months when she got her band and has been wearing it for 4 weeks. So that is a couple weeks younger, but after 3 weeks we could visually see a great improvement. She also gained 1.5 pounds this past month, though, so obviously when they are growing rather quickly you'll see faster results. I think its probably different for every child. She wears a starband and they go up to 18 months with them, so there must be documented evidence that children up to 18 months (sometimes older, I'm sure) will have good results with it. So, it may be a little slower than a 4 month old, but I'm sure you'll see wonderful results. I have heard (and I don't know how accurate this is) that the helmet doesn't actually reallign the ears, but the correction of the head shape allows for the ears to follow. So that makes me think you may not see as fast of results with the ears, but it will happen during the treatment period. Guest guest
There is a large range of when babies start wearing a band. By six mo is ideal, before a year is great, but even up until 18 mo or older most babies with misshapen heads will benefit. Many start after a year and get very good correction, so you're doing just fine. One thing to know is that the experience of the orthotist is key in getting good results. So hopefully you've done a little research into banding options, and are going with someone reputable. If not you might tell us where you're going and see if anyone here has experience at the same place. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > Hello, > I am new to the group. Guest guest
, Since you have mentioned places for treatment, my son and his wife will be taking their twins to Cranial Technologies, Inc, located in the Wash D.C. area They are fortunate, I think, to be a fairly close driving distance, being near Rockville, MD Cranial Tech, Inc does have a very nice website, and a parents page with pictures and success stories. Perhaps all of these places have their own websites and a good parents' page. Guest guest
Hello , My daughter started her treatment at 11.5 months old for Brachy (flat head). It has been 44 days so far and our results are GREAT. I was discouraged at first because she was a late started for getting treatment and I wasn't sure if she would get any results. I am so happy that I decided to go ahead with the treatment. My results are great now and there are still almost 3 months of treatment left. So at 8 months your daughter will get the results you are looking for.
