Guest guest
It is possible the band is too tight. You should get the band within 2 weeks of the casting/scan. Also she might have had a big growth spurt during that time. you shouldn't put the band on until it has been checked and adjusted, since the bump over her ear has been there more than one hour. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > We are in our first week of our Hanger Cranial Band. Guest guest
I agree, leave it off and have it adjusted. I remember past posts where kids had slight ridges grow where the band had been resting if it was too tight. I believe those ridges never went away. Not to scare you but, I would be very concerned if it was squizing on my childs face and near the ear. My sons band had good movement so that it never really squeezed anywher. It had alot of movement at first over the forehead but this gradually got better as his head bossing went back to place. This is personally why I didn't go with hanger, too many issues and stories like this. I hope yours is easly corrected. I would go in an make sure my ortho was very experienced and make sure they shave out some foam or get me a new helmet. You dont want your childs head being squeezed, the process is gradual and the changes happen slowly due to the helmet design to be passive. Guest guest
It sounds like it may be too tight? I was told by my sons orthitist that the redness should go away in 30 minutes otherwise to call them anand let them know. We are only in the first week of this ourselves so maybe someone else has better advice. Good luck! -Bre (mom to Tyler 6 months old/plagio/cranio-cap 8/13/08) > > We are in our first week of our Hanger Cranial Band. Guest guest
, My son has been in a Hanger Cranial Band for over a month now and he still gets red lines/spots on his head. His are due to the fact that the helmet is rubbing on his skin during a growth spurt. I would recommend putting some Aveeno baby lotion on your daughters red spots.....that lotion worked wonders for my son. He still gets red, raw areas on his head, and when he gets those I take the helmet off for thw day to allow those spots to heal while applying lotion to them every 1- 2 hours. Hope this helps and that you have a much better experience with Hanger than I have had here in Phoenix. ~~ > > We are in our first week of our Hanger Cranial Band. Guest guest
Hi , My daughter used to get spots after a growth spurt too. We would take her in for an adjustment at that time. I'm wondering if you just leave the band off for the day then put it back without adjusting it? I wouldn't think this is good, since the red spots usually indicate the band it too tight in that area. The skin shouldn't really be getting " raw " . Sorry to hear you're not having a good experience with Hanger. I hope your son's head is improving. It is possible for a badly made band to make the head worse - keep your eye out for this. The reason I mention it is that i'm not sure what your bad experience is (can't remember if I read other posts about it), but I want to make sure this doesn't happen to you. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > > > We are in our first week of our Hanger Cranial Band. Guest guest
Hi there, We too have a hanger band and though the occassional red spots still appear, we've always taken our daughter in for an adjustment if any spot stays red for longer than an hour. Once during a growth spurt she developed a knot above her ear and we left the band off until we could get an adjustment the next day. No knots since the adjustment. So, when in doubt about tightness/red spots, I would leave it off and contact your ortho right away. kristine (mom to ava, 7 weeks in hanger band)
