I am sorry that I can't help you with finding a ped in LA, I am on the East Coast, but I am curious to know what you did to get your son's eczema under control. Both of my daughters suffer from it and I am at my wits end.

Thanks,

Leila

Hi - My son graduated from his DOC Band back in June. He was in it for a total of 15 weeks and we saw wonderful improvement. I don't post too frequently but I was wondering if any of you Los Angeles Mom's and Dad's know of a good pediatrician? I would like to change pediatricians for several reasons, but the most important reason of all is that I don't feel like my legitimate concerns (head shape, horrible eczema) were ever taken serious. We have fixed both, or I should say his eczema is under control now but I would still like to make a change. I live in the sf valley…any suggestions? Thanks –

Hi Leila,

Eczema can be so difficult to deal with :( My son's pediatrician

would constantly recommend Eucerin and while I think Eucerin is great

it did NOT work on my son. To make a long story short though we

finally took him to a dermatologist and she prescribed Mimix cream

and Cloderm (steroid cream). We were instructed that the steroid

cream could only be applied for 7 days and then we had to wait

another 7 days before applying it again (on one week, off another).

The Cloderm cream is what has actually made his eczema manageable

though. When he has an outbreak I apply it 2 x a day and it usually

clears up within 2-5 days depending on the severity. I apply the

mimix cream 2 x a day when not using the steroid cream.

I'm not sure of the age of your daughters but my son is 10 months old

and has had eczema since about 1 month old. He's had an allergy test

and was found to have a few allergies, one being milk. We had to

switch his formula to soy and that helped as well. Do you children

have allergies? Have you had the chance to take your daughters to a

dermatologist? If not, I recommend that as a start :)

I really hope it get's better for you and your daughters because I

know eczema can be so frustrating. It's just so hard to see your

child in any sort of discomfort...especially when you don't know what

to do to help.

Anyway, please keep me posted ok...

Thanks for the reply. I also think that I need to see a dermatologist. My oldest daughter is 2 and a half and still has outbreaks on her elbows, upper thighs and anywhere she has a crease which is pretty much everywhere. She's always been a chunky baby. She is allergic to eggs but nothing else so far. My youngest, who is 6 months old, has it on the left cheek, mainly and a little bit on the right. They both have the same complexion and skin tone, so I have a feeling that Maysa is going to have the same eczema problems as her big sister. I had never heard of the types of creams you mentioned in your reply, so I'll be sure to mention it to her ped at our next visit.

Thanks again and good luck with everything.

Leila, mother of Maysa, 6 m, 16 days in ECA helmet

and Soraya, 2 1/2 y o (too stubborn for a helmet)

andria, VA
