Hi everyone,

My son, Nicolas, has a starband and I was looking at the pictures

everyone has posted to find another baby with the same flattening as my

son with before and after pictures. The children in the " Docband " album

seemed to have the same flattening and best results. That could just be

a coincidence but I'm wondering, from everyone's experiences with the

different types, what type of band has worked out the best? And I read

in a post the other day that someone had used 2 different types with

one child. Is that something I should ask our ortho about?

I think the only people who have used two different types of helmets

and/or two different orthos have been those who have had poor

fitting helmets or bad experiences with the first one. In a perfect

scenario, one type of helmet will do the job, as long as the ortho

knows what they're doing and have a lot of experience. There have

been quite a few bad experiences (no improvement or the head shape

actually gets worse) with StarBand and Hanger bands (and some other

smaller/local named bands) where the parent then decides to go to

Cranial Tech for a DOCBand and gets better results. I do know a few

moms who have stuck with the same brand but switched orthos and were

happier. I have heard of only one bad experience at CT and that

parent still stayed with them and got a better fitting band and is

now happy with the result. I have never heard of anyone having a bad

experience with a DOCBand and switching to another type of band.

If you're happy with the results you are getting and the ortho you

are working with, there should be no need to look into or get

another type of band (sometimes two bands are necessary to receive

the best correction, but you would normally stay with the same brand

and a second band is rarely needed with a StarBand, usually only a

DOCBand). Are you concerned about the StarBand or ortho you are

using?

Hi ,

I really like our ortho! He's great about questions and seems to have a lot of experience. He's the only dr in Oklahoma who does this work. And I have a relative who has gone to him and loves the results. I'm just not sure that this helmet is working out so well. I mean, his head is definately getting rounder, but also has this "ridge" everyone has been talking about. The overall shape of the starband isn't the shape we want. It just doesn't seem big enough and the starband itself looks diagonal and like it was a flat side! Also my son's head is getting wider, as i talked about with someone in a message a few days ago. I'm sure our ortho knows what he's doing but we've never had any scans or anything like that. Just old fashioned measuring. I was already worried about it but then i saw all the pictures of what DOCbands had accomplished and that seems to be more of what my son needs. We go on Tues so I definately have a list of questions! But I was

just wondering if it's common to need different bands. Also during our 1st visit, our ortho had said that Nicolas would probably out-grow this helmet because he's already so big and is growing really fast. But that made me think that if he grows so fast, why would he be in the band so long? Our ortho estimated at least 6 months! Nicolas got the starband at 4 1/2 months and was told we shouldn't be suprised if he's wearing it after 10 months! I really don't care if it takes 5 years! I just hope that the starband is giving us the right results and not making things worse.
