pulling hair when helmet is off

My son (just turned 1) has been in the helmet for 4 months now. We've

had no improvement over the past 2 months and if it is the same at the

end of June we are going to take the helmet off for good. We've seen

alot of improvement and we're okay with how his head looks.

My question is...has anyone ever had their child pull their hair out

when their helmet is off? My son recently started to do this. We

haven't cut my son's hair yet since he is in the helmet, so you don't

really notice that his hair is getting longer, but he keeps pulling

handfuls of it out when we take his helmet off. He started scratching

the back of his head atleast a month ago when we would take it off but

at his last ortho appointment he began pulling his hair out. Now

everytime we take it off he's pulling his hair out. Has anyone else

experienced this? I guess we could just cut his hair then he wouldn't

be able to grab it but it's just so odd.

It doesn't bother him when he wears it. We have been extremely lucky

that it hasn't but he does sometime pull at the velcro.
