Guest guest
Before banding, I did a google search on " untreated plagiocephaly " and found some interesting reads. Nothing that seemed to be a real study though. One thing that I did read that stuck out was that they were unable to conduct any major studies because they weren't able to find enough parents willing to bypass the band to see what would happen. I also saw photos of adults with untreated plagio and joined the Older Plagio message board that helped convince me that this would not go away on its own. Also, case in point, I did band my son at an older age, and a helmet has helped the overall shape of his head, but has not made it perfect. So even WITH help, his head is not correcting fully on it's own and he's nearing two, the supposed magical age for self correction and/or permanent plagio (depending on the doctor). It's so conflicting...if it is supposed to correct by itself, you would think the band would only speed up the process regardless of age, yet so many doctors say it's pointless to band an older child because it won't help. I wish everyone could just get on the same page! Guest guest
My 43 year old husband has uncorrected brachy :-) I don't know of any studies, but think most doctor's base their opinion on anecdotal evidence and not studies. Also since back-to-sleep took a while to take off I think there will be a lot more plagio in the past 5 years or so then there was previously, so only a very recent study would be worth anything. I definitely have seen adults with brachy and plagio as well as school age children. I would be interested in what you find. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Does anyone know of research on the % of kids with plagio/brachy that correct without > banding?
