Guest guest
Hi Lindsey- Drew's measurements look great! I'm just a little confused by the " largest assymetry " number, I don't quite know what that is referring to. It's so hard when insurance doesn't cover it, to decide whether to go for a second one or not. If it's at all feasible for you, and you have any doubts about NOT doing it, I would go for a second one. I am so glad we did. My son is a lot older than yours, but we still have seen almost as much correction with the second band as we did with the first (in less time), and it has made me so happy that we did it. At 7 months, you should really be able to achieve a super round noggin, so I do think it would be worth it if you went ahead with it. But the numbers don't matter as much as what his head looks like. So if you're happy with the shape now, and can be happy with it in the long run, then you can probably skip the second one. It is great though that he's so young still and you can kind of " sleep on it " for a little while without rushing into the decision. Please let us know what you decide! Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Thank you all for responding about Drew. We think he has done really well. It is hard to decide about getting the second helmet, especially due to the expense. Of course you want to do everything for your child, but there are some limits. I think if we didn't have to pay for it again, we probably would get a second one. But, since that is not the case, we didn't do it...yet. We think his head looks sooo much better. I've posted his before & after pictures in the D section under " Drew C before/after " they are on the last page: http://health.ph./group/Plagiocephaly/photos/view/5966?b=87 & m=s & \ o=0 I'd love to hear what you all think. It is nice to get opinions from people who don't see him everyday I just wonder how evident all of this will be when he grows up--do you think it will be noticeable or not really? Guest guest
Hi , this is tough because I can't really say yes or no. I can still see the problem, but I am so used to looking for plagio. He did get a lot of correction. I really don't have any good advice. If he was severe I would definitely tell you to band again, but this is a tough call. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > > > > > My son got his helmet off on 7/29 after 8weeks, because he grew > > out of > > > it. Guest guest
I checked out your photos and I think he looks good, but I would go for a second one. It looks moderate and not severe, but I can still tell. Down the road I think you will be glad you did it. Have you exhausted all of your appeals? I am on two of a possible three. I also have an appeal information packet that I could mail you. Re: Got helmet off, but should we get a second one?? Hi Everyone, Thank you all for responding about Drew. Guest guest
His pictures look pretty good. I know all too well what a difficult choice that 2nd one can be. My son Logan graduated in May. He finished up a borderline mild/moderate. I probably would have gone for the second one since his tort is still not resolved but my husband felt strongly that he looked good. The drive was 3 hours each way for us to get to CT. I honestly regret that we didn't go for it now that I feel like I am seeing some regression lately. I am back to repositioning and worrying about his little head all the time. At times, he looks really good and other times pretty bad to my eye. I don't know how much of it other people see. Sorry I can't be more help! Best of luck with your decision. Just make sure it's one you are comfortable with. Guest guest
I'm a bit late to this thread but have a similar dilemma. Robbie got his helmet off last month after only 6 weeks. We saw amazing change from 15mm to 2mm, so while they said a second helmet was an option, insurance probably wouldn't cover it. We agreed (I know my policy pretty well) but I asked them to run it thru just in case, but that we were completely satisfied and done if it wasn't covered. (He still has a bit of flatness, but people only see it when i point it out, and I'm sure hair will cover it). Now, fast forward 4 weeks: I was shocked to get a letter yesterday from my insurance co. saying that they had made a pre-treatment decision APPROVING the second band, (presumably because it was a continuation of treatment?) The letter states that preapproval in not a guarantee, so if we went forward, there's a chance we would pay, and 2mm is definitely not worth $3600. On the other hand, if it truly is covered, would we be foolish not to do it? I know we're ucky to have coverage... I don't have photos with me, but will try to post some later. What would you do? > > My son got his helmet off on 7/29 after 8weeks, because he grew out of > it. We saw a lot of change, and now he is considered " mild " . Guest guest
I don't think a good band can be made for only 2mm of asymmetry. Does he have brachy too (cephalic index above 80%?). Some babies have a combo of plagio and brachy, and may treat the plagio first and then the brachy. Normal for asymmetry is 0-3mm, so there would be no reason to do a band for only 2mm. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > > > My son got his helmet off on 7/29 after 8weeks, because he grew out > of > > it. Guest guest
Hi All, Thanks for your imput. We're still not sure what we want to do. We have family coming into town this weekend and some of them are in the medical field, so we're going to feel them out also for what they think. It is a tough decision. --I think the range of normal is 0-3mm, so I think 2mm is really good! Can they even make a band for such a small correction? > > > > > > > > My son got his helmet off on 7/29 after 8weeks, because he grew out > > of > > > it. Guest guest
You know I have no idea - I was shocked that my insurance approved it, since both CT and I had both been happy with the results (the only reason I even had them see if it would be covered was because he was in it such a short time and I was worried about regression.) Since we've been out of it a month and I haven't noticed any regression - and his hair is growing in - I think we'll probably just not persue it. I realize we are lucky to have coverage, which is what threw me for a loop. Good luck with your decision too! > > > > > > > > My son got his helmet off on 7/29 after 8weeks, because he grew out > > > of > > > > it. We saw a lot of change, and now he is considered " mild " .
