Ok. Well today was Athena's consult with the ped plastic surg... He

looked over her, measured her head, and said 'why did you wait so

long to bring her in? helmet therapy doenst normaly work when babies

are this age.' i thought helmets were effective up til 18 months?

thats what i told him. he said that we may see some improvement but

it wont be perfect because she is too old. she is only 9 months. it

made me feel like a bad mommy bc i didnt take her in earlier. it took

me this long to convince her father/my boyfriend to let me take her.

he said she is a definate candidate, it is very noticable and if it

doesnt work, it will be very noticable forever. now i feel horrible.

i have to wait probably another 2 weeks before i can get in to Union

Ortho to get fitted and eveyrhting. will it work with her? though she

is 9 months? i asked the girl at Union, and she said it does work, it

just may take a little longer. i am willing to do whatever it takes.

i feel so bad. repo has helped a lot, and i was hoping it would help

more. but it isnt so thats why i chose this route. am i wrong for

putting it off, even for just those couple months? i really thought

the repo was working. and the sad part is, her old ped wouldnt have

even let me know that anyhting was wrong becuase they didnt think

anything of her plag or her tort. i am so mad. they said her plag was

good, not going to be noticable and that she would be fine. shows how

much they know.

am i doing the right hting? putting her through this if it wont work?

seriuosly, i dont know what is right anymore.

Sometimes I really just want to smack those doctors upside the head!

It worries me that he doesn't even know how well a helmet can work

to be as ignorant as to say it won't help a 9th month old. That's

such a crock! My son was 17 months old when he got his helmet and we

started seeing change in the first week. It hasn't been extreme, but

he really is on the older end of old. Nine months is nothing. I know

of a mom personally who banded her son at 9 months and he was only

in the helmet 10 weeks and he has a perfectly round head. So don't

let that doctor make you feel bad, you've done absolutely nothing

wrong. In fact, you tried everything you could to get it corrected

through repo before pursuing a helmet. So don't beat yourself up

over it. You're doing a good thing now and believe me, it's not too

late.

Good luck with everything!

It will work. My son was banded when he was a little over 8 months old. Within the first two weeks I saw great improvement. Don't beat yourself up about it. We rely on the pedis to steer us in the right direction and help us to both prevent and treat things like this in a more effective manner. Unfortunately there are many cases of this not happening (obviously by the number of parents on this forum). You're doing the right thing now. I know as a mommy that we want to prevent anything from happening to our babies. You did not fail your daughter. You relied on the opinion of your doctor. How could you have known? Well, you know now and you're treating this as an important matter. She'll improve. Take my case for example. My son is moderate-severe plagio with tort on the right side (measured 16mm). After the two weeks I swear his head looked 2000x better. His tort is resolved for the most part. At his first 2wk check up even the ortho agreed. He is doing

great! Take care and God bless! Tammy (mommy to Christian, banded on 4.18.08, docband - Arlington, TX) <illeannamum@...> wrote: Ok. Well today was Athena's consult with the ped plastic surg...
