Guest guest
....we went to Mexico for a week at about the 1 month mark in the helmet. It was very hot with intense sun. I found it pretty hard to keep anything on top of his helmet (not to mention it looked really funny) so I just used the clear sunscreen which they make nowadays and sprayed it on his head in the area of the hole on top & on his ears. Of course, the doc bands have lots more exposed area than our Boston Band...may not work. May also not work if you a kid with really thick hair. I find it important even for girls to keep sunscreen on their head (parts in a girls hair can sunburn very quickly)... That all being said, we gave our son liberal time with out his helmet during the hottest part of the day. During that time he just wore a regular sun hat for infants or a baseball hat (for babies). We told our ortho we were going to a very hot climate/beach and were worried about the heat/mess of wearing the helmet. He said the brief disruption in the normal schedule would not be catastrophic and better than risking sun induced overheating/rash. Our son still had GREAT correction at his next visit despite. We were sure to put the helmet back on any time he was in the shade or sleeping and evenings. I wouldn't stress about it. As long as you're consistent otherwise your child will be just fine! Hope this helps. > > Hi, > > My son (7 1/2 months) has been in his DOC Band now or 4 1/2 weeks.
