Greetings,

I have just joined the group - so glad I found it. I am writing to see if anyone would share their experiences re. the provider who's doing our STAR band, CIRS in Palo Alto, CA.

After 2 months of vigilant repositioning and visits to Center for Indep Rehabilitation Services (initial scan, 2 rescans), my daughter had no improvement (based on the STAR scan) to her flat side spot, at almost 8 months old now. Her head grew but the deformity stayed exactly the way it was 2 months ago, keeping her a borderline helmet candidate. So... depressed and discouraged, I made our helmet deposit and chose a design... The fitting is in 2 weeks.

Although we're already being treated and so far we like the orthotist and the staff at CIRS, I am wondering if anyone would share their treatment experiences and impressions about this provider. I was referred there originally by the Lucile Packard Children's hospital.

We lived in Redwood City when my daughter got her band. We had Kaiserinsurance and got a referral to their cranial facial specialist (DrMenard in Santa Clara). We got our starband from CIRS in Palo Alto, and CIRS also has an office on Oakland. If you really want to go toCranial Tech you would have to travel (LA, or San Diego). However youmight want to call CIRS and ask them if they work with any peds inyour area - since presumably they would be band-friendly.I agree waiting until 6 mo doesn't make sense. My daughter wasreferred to a specialist at 4 mo and got her band at 5 mo. I wouldeven have liked to start sooner. Good luck with everything and let usknow how things go.-christinesydney 2.5 yrs starband grad>> Help!

Hi Natasha,We take our son to CIRS, Palo Alto as well. My son, Noah, is almost 10 months old and has had his helmet for 5 weeks. I have seen two orthotist: Bob and Amy. Bob is a little "rough" but he does care. Amy has a better bedside manner. We have not had any problems with the fit, no excessive red marks or chaifing. We have not seen any improvement in son's head shape yet but it's still early. Also, my son is all ready 24 pounds. I'm hoping he'll have a growth spurt but it's going to be a long process for us. =)I wish you the best of luck. I know how hard it is to make that decision. Our son was boarderline too. The first two weeks were hard but it got better. Hang in there. Please post

again and let us know how your little one is doing and progressing. Thanks, Re: Referral in San FranciscoPlagiocephalyDate: Friday, July 25, 2008, 5:00 AMWe lived in Redwood City when my daughter got her band. Hi,

My son Adrien is also treated at the CIRS in Palo Alto. It was

recommended by our pediatrician.

I have had a good impression, both orthotists seem very experienced.

I particularly liked the fact that they were not pushy at all and let

us try the repositioning as long as we wanted. We just came back

regularly to check the progress on their scanner.

My story is very similar to yours. Adrien is almost 6 months old and

we have tried repositioning without success for more than 2 months.

Finally we have decided to start the Starband. It was a difficult

choice because summers in California are hot and I just hate to see

him sweat so much.

We have received our band last Friday, and we are in the break in

period. So far so good but it's only been a few days.

We went to the CIRS in Oakland and had a great experience there. I've

always heard good things about the Palo Alto office so I'm sure you're in

good hands there.

Sydney had severe brachy and wore a band from CIRS in PA for 5 mo (age

5 to 10 mo). We had a very good experience. We saw Bob for most of our

appts but I also liked Amy when we did see her. You can see Sydney's

pics and her scan under Our Plagio Babies S/Sydney M.
