Guest guest
my son has had great improvment in his hanger band, that he has had for 2 months now. My question is.... My sons measurments were 12mm when he started and now they are 5mm. But now since his head is growing so much and getting bigger since he is getting bigger his helmet is shaved all the way down as much as possable, but its still making really bad red marks on his forehead and on one side of his head by his eye.His orthro just told me that if it keeps making red marks that won't go away, that we need to buy a new helmet. Im fine with the way his head shape is now, its not perfect but it's not bad either. I dont know if I should buy the new helmet or if I should just keep him out of a helmet since im fine with the way his head looks. I dont know what to do! Has anyone had trouble with sores that look like pressure sores almost from the Helmets? What are bad sores (red marks) and which ones should I not be so dramatic about? PLEASE HELP ANyONE! Guest guest
I would say if you're happy with his current headshape, there's no need to go with a second helmet. The ortho can't force you to do it if you don't want to. 5mm is very mild and it sounds like you're satisfied with the results you've gotten. I'm not sure about the red spots, we've never gotten down to the plastic in my son's band. However, I would recommend taking it off if it seems to be too tight and adding too much pressure. It could adversely change the shape of his head. Guest guest
Most orthos wouldn't band at 5 mm, so I don't see that you would need a second helmet. The odd thing is that usually the ortho tells you the child has outgrown the helmet at the point where it can no longer be ajusted to fit properly - sounds like your ortho is sort of wishy-washy on this by telling you that " if the red marks don't go away... " . To me it sounds like you have already outgrown your current helmet and should stop wearing it. " Bad " red spots are those that don't fade within an hour, or where the skin doesn't look healthy. If the spot is staying pink that is probably okay, but if it is bright red or getting worse the band should be off. SOunds like you've had good improvement. Please post some pics if you have a chance. -christine sydney 2.5 yrs starband grad > > my son has had great improvment in his hanger band, that he has had for > 2 months now. My question is....
