Are you worried about the way the band fits or her actual head shape? The band looks like it fits fine. Our ortho told us to use the v in the center as a guide when putting our son's band on but that it may shift off center once it's on.

Thanks Amy! The ortho today said it's just the way the midline rests on her. She adjusted it so I would feel better about it. I suppose it's just my imagination. Re: Could the band be making the shape worse?

Hi Sandy-

My son has been in a DOCBand for 21 weeks (two bands) and that point

has never lined up with his nose in all that time. It's always

rested to the inside corner of his right eye (he has right plagio as

well). From the photos, it looks like it fits her fine. My son is a

lot older so I'm not sure if you should compare this or not, but we

didn't see a whole lot of improvement in his forhead bulge until

about week 11 or 12. So I'm guessing (hoping!) that in the next few

weeks, she'll hit a growth spurt and you'll see more dramatic change

in that area. Good luck!

Thank you ! That's very reassuring! The ortho adjusted it a bit today so I wouldn't be deceived by the midpoint. Re: Could the band be making the shape worse?

Our BostonBand from NOPCO also appeared to be asymmetric and closer

against my sons face on one side . When I took off the helmet, it

appeared the two pieces that rest against his cheeks were both going

in the same direction (left) versus both pointing straight down or

towards his face.

I asked about it and they explained that if both sides were completely

symmetrical, the helmet would tend to rotate on the baby's head when

pushed by movements like rolling over, turning his head when lying

down. They have to make it a bit asymmetric to stop that from

happening. I'm only talking about the sides that come down over the

cheeks, not the actual helmet.

Now, I'm not sure if that's the same sort of thing you're explaining

but if you still aren't sure, ask your ortho specialist. My sons

helmet isn't so asymmetric that it rubs in any way or in such a way

that it would impact the shaping.

FYI, my son has brachy and only mild asymmetry at the back of his head

(the shaping is carved out internally for that).

Hope this helps...
