Guest guest
Hi. My daughter Corinne was diagnosed at 3 months with torticollis and she is now 6 months (almost tilt free). She also has plagio and I am in the process of getting her an evaluation for a helmet or band. There are only two places within 2 hours of my home that I can find that offer orthotic devices for plagio. One is Union Orthotics and Prosthetics in Pittsburgh, PA (they use the StarBand) and the other is Presque Isle Rehab in Erie, PA. I can find plenty of info on the Starband but apparently the place in Erie makes their own device and they only call it a helmet. Has anyone here had any experience with Presque Isle Rehab? Any info will be very helpful (I would love a picture of their helmet). I plan to call both places today, as her PT just said yesterday she thinks she should be evaluated for head shape. Right now I'm leaning toward just taking her for the Starband, but if there have been positive experiences in Erie, it would be great to hear about them. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. I am fromt he Pittsburgh area. I haven't had personal experiences with either place because I repositioned my baby to get her correction, but I have heard good things about Union Orthotics in Pittburgh. I have never heard of the place you are talking about in Erie. So if you go there, even jsut for a consult, I would love to know what you find out about their product. On a personal note, I am hesitant when I hear about places that have developed their own product. There are companies with established reputations in the field of cranial remolding orthoses. Judging by what you have said are your geographical options, I gather that Cranial Technologies is not an option for you unless you want to do some significant travelling. That said, and again this is only my personal opinion, I would definitely lean towards the more well-known product. I would have to be really dazzled by someplace if I was going to use a local-type band. If you do go for a consultation at the place in Erie, please ask a lot of questions about their product. And make sure youa re dazzled with whatever place you choose. Good luck and please let us know how it goes. Becky, repo moderator , repo grad Pittsburgh, PA > > Hi.
