Helmets aren't as effective if growth is slow because there is no

growth to redirect, but they don't slow the growth of the head - if

they did that would be dangerous. I think a lot of doctors are

ignorant about banding. At 15 mo you won't necessarily see a lot of

correction without a band. Even with a band it will be less at that

age because for all babies growth is slower by that age. Since her

growth is very slow a helmet might not even be effective. Have you

gotten a second opinion? Is there any medical problem that causes her

growth to be so slow, or is she just in the lower percentile, but

still tracking okay (I have a kid with a giant head, but no problems).

Why would you need surgery? Is it to correct the shape or another

problem? Surgery to correct the shape is very rare. More often it is

to open the sutures if they have closed too early (craniosystosis).

my daughter does have turner sydrome, girls have XX chromosomes and

boys have XY, with turner syndrome there is only one X chromosome. It

causes diff things to happen but it does cause her growth to be slow.

She will eventually have to have growth hormones to help her get some

height. She will grow to be about 4' 7'' with the shots. She has a

long road ahead of her, i just don't want to add a misshappen head

to it. It isn't bad, but i can tell. She might have to have surgery

for it because she has pressure from her brain on her skull and her

skull isn't growing fast enough to give it room. It is growing

alittle so we are just monitoring it now. Thank you for the advice:) -

Hi

I'm sorry to hear she has turners. I have heard a little about it

because a friend of a friend has a daughter with it as well. I wish

her the best. I'm sure you don't want her to have to have the surgery,

but at least they can monitor things and intervene if needed.
