Guest guest
Okay, thanks you guys. I was told and have been reading about just using alcohol on his helmet, which normally we do. Or if we wipe it out w/something else we make the final step the alcohol. I will be careful w/the baking soda, I hadn't planned on using it every time we took a bath, just as another way to get the smell off of his hair, because as you guys know, shampoo doesn't always take the smell completely out. Also, I shampoo after the baking soda, so hopefully that removes any harmful residue that would be left on his head. We don't go back to the ortho until next week and I will ask her at that time about the baking soda at that time and let you know. My initial thought was it was okay to use it on his head, but I probably wouldn't use it on the band itself. I've taken baths with baking soda before as a kid and an adult (it helps to take the sting out of sunburn), so I don't believe it's harmful to the skin. I just wonder about the residue it might leave behind in the band if it's not scrubbed out really well. And using water on the foam isn't recommended because although the surface of the foam may feel dry, it may not dry completely all the way through the foam and will trap moisture against the skin, possibly causing breakdown. It does sound like a great solution though, so I would just recommend asking your ortho about it before continuing to use it (although it worries me when orthos say it's okay to use water to clean the band since the manufacturers specify not to). Again, even if it can only be used on his head (I know people use a similar paste with Aveeno oatmeal bath to help with itching and dry skin, so it seems similar), it's still better than nothing. Please let us know what the ortho says.Jake-21m (tort resolved/rt plagio/DOCBand #2 1 week)Jordan-4> >> > OMG!!
