Guest guest
I personally think the first ear infection is a complete coincidence. Do not clean the band with soap and water. The liner is porous so any water or other cleaning solution will get absorbed into it. It might feel dry but it really isn't and then the water will slowly eek back out and cause skin problems or irritation with the moisture sealing against skin. Orthomerica, makers of the STARband, specifically says: The cranial orthoses manufactured by Orthomerica can all be cleaned with 78-99% rubbing alcohol. Wet a soft cloth with the alcohol and vigorously wipe out the entire inside of the orthosis once a day when you remove the orthosis for your baby's bath. This will help prevent bacteria from building up on the inner liner and will reduce the odor that is sometimes present. Make sure the alcohol is completely dry before placing the orthosis back on the baby's head. If you live in a sunny climate, place the band in the sun after cleaning it to help it dry. The baby's head should be washed daily with a mild baby shampoo that will not hurt the eyes. Aveeno shampoo, or Tea tree oil shampoo made by a company called can soothe some scalp irritations that can occasionally occur because of heat build-up and perspiration inside the orthosis. She did amsazingly well. sleeps in it beautifully and everthing. my question is hotuhg...she was just diagnosed with her very first ear infection. could it have been caused by the helmet for some reason? i know, when we went for the first follow up, she had to trim the ears a little bit, but i didnt think it was that bad. im just curious if the helmet could have been the cause. also, the ortho recommended we clean it with the alcohol and then go over it with a tiny bit of baby soap and water. is that right? i thought you werent supposed to use soap and water on them? and how can i keep the foam white? it is driving me crazy. she sweats a lot and the edges are getting dirty and they wont come clean, no matter how much i scrub it. it is just a pet peeve of mine. thanks ladies. Guest guest
I agree with the nail brush. I use just a little bit of a non scented hand soap. managed to get carrots on hers. It drove me nuts for a week. Finally we went back to the ortho for a checkup and he had to shave some off and the carrots got shaved off as well. Guest guest
Thanks a bunch. I will try the nail brush. See if that helps any...because she got sweet potatos on her helmet the other day, and it wont come off. Ugh. She goes back to the ortho on July 14 so hopefully she will do something with it. And this may seem crazy, but she has only been in it going on 2 weeks, and I totally see a difference in her Plagio. And I am not the only one, we went to her grandmas house today and when i took the helmet off (we hadnt seen her in a month or so, before she got the helmet) she said how round her head looked already. She said the plagio was barely noticable. I still notice it, especially in the tub, but not nearly as bad as it was.
