Guest guest
I enjoyed Mindy Pennybacker's article " The Ghettoization of Asthma " and would love to see you tackle the issue of the politics of indoor air quality. Despite overwhelming evidence of toxins causing serious physical harm, expecially toxic molds, our government agencies charged with the task of preventing them have laid down and died....even going so far in the case of NIOSH to refute research on the hazards of stachybotrus. Now, portable classrooms are at the center of controversy as more and more children develop asthma, chronic fatigue and continuous respiratory infections. Parents need to know that very serious health consequences can result from continuous exposure to these toxins. Schools that do not perform timely HVAC and roof leak maintenance are asking for trouble. Several schools were so badly contaminated, they had to be torn down. Broward County Florida just spent millions in an attempt to rid their schools of toxic molds. We can't keep turning a blind eye while a whole generaton of school children are poisoned. Barbara Herskovitz Moderator, Sick buildings Digest (Mothers & Others, a national nonprofit education organization, works to promote consumer choices which are safe and ecologically sustainable for this generation and the next. By providing strategies that can reduce individual and community consumption of natural resources, and by mobilizing consumers to seek sustainable choices, we aim to effect lasting protection of public health and the environment. )
