Hi, anyone with older babies who had treatment have any advice on

keeping the helmet on? My daughter is 16 months plus now and we're

having a hard time to keep her helmet on especially when she's

sleeping. She just yanks it off 15 minutes after we put it on her.

When she's awake, we can make her wear it but we have to keep her

distracted or occupied for her not to remember the helmet, which

usually means going out. She was good at wearing it the first few

weeks, now it's getting more difficult. She now had it for a month.

For those who had older babies like mine, when did you start noticing

any change on the head shape of your kids after getting the helmet? I

know it takes longer for older kids, so i'm wondering what your

experiences are..

Tips anyone?

Chris

Hi Chris-

Is she undoing the velcro (the helmet has velcro, doesn't it? You're

in Asia aren't you?) or just pushing it off even with the velcro

closed? I'm not sure what can be done if she's just pushing it off,

it sounds like it might be too loose. My son hasn't figured out the

velcro yet but he did recently try to push it off around the

forehead area a couple of times and it wouldn't budge. If she is

undoing the velcro, you can either tape the ends closed with packing

or duct tape, or use a large barette to clip over the two pieces of

velcro in the middle. If she's just pushing it off, I'm not sure

what can be done. If she's losing a lot of night-time wear by taking

it off every night, it won't be as effective.

We noticed one small spot pop out in the first week of wearing the

band (my son started wearing it at 17m 1week). Each week I can feel

a little spot of change. It's not dramatic, but I have his flat spot

memorized by feel so when I rub my hand over it I can feel the

subtle changes, probably more than I can see them. His forehead (the

side opposite the bossing) started to pop out after about 3 or 4

weeks or so, but we saw the most change in it in about week 12 or

13.

Let us know if you figure something out about keeping her helmet on.

Good luck!

Hi ,

Yes, it's me from Singapore.

She pushes her helmet off, not undoing the velcro. Does this mean it's

too loose? Im kinda puzzled with the fit of the helmet actually since

when she's wearing it, she gets the reddish spots on the prominent

areas of her head, and it doesnt go away as fast as it should. The

orthotist suggested we loosen the velcro a bit if that is happening

since there might be too much pressure..

I'm also thinking maybe its easier for her to take it off since her

hair is a bit longer now.

Yes, it might be her hair that's making it easier to slip off. I

don't know that I've heard of anyone just pushing their helmets off,

usually it's that they figure out how to open the velcro first. It

would seem it's too loose, but then if she's getting red marks, that

is puzzling. How long does it take for them to fade? It's definitely

not heat rash, right? How often does she go for adjustments? Is the

foam lining scraped out for adjustments or how does that work with

that kind of helmet? It definitely needs to be holding in the

prominent areas, so I suppose it's a good sign to see red spots in

those areas. But I really don't have a suggestion for keeping it on

if she's just able to push it off. Sorry I couldn't be of more help

on that front!

Are you seeing any progress with the band? I know you had some

concerns about choosing to stay in Singapore for treatment. How are

things going with the specialist?

She should not be able to just take it off. It is not fitting properly go back immediately. This is not right. Tammy
