My son has been in his STARband for 1 1/2 weeks now. He is 7 months

old. He is doing really great. He starting sleeping through the night

after 3 days which is really nice since he wasn't sleeping through the

night before the band. I have started using icepacks while we use the

carseat since our weather has been 100+ degrees the last week. Last

night before I took the helmet off to clean I noticed my son was trying

to get under his helmet to itch his head. When I took the helmet off I

started to help him itch and I noticed white flakes falling from his

head. I am just wondering if anyone elese has had this problem. I clean

the helmet very good every night with alcohol and wash and rinse his

head too. I am thinking maybe it is dried sweat but I do not know what

to do for that. We keep our house at 73 and pretty much stay indoors

because of the heat. There is no rash just flakes. Any advice would

help. Also, I finally posted a couple of pictures of Dylan in his

STARband. He is under Our Plagio Babies D on the last page :-)

Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds like cradle cap. My daughter had it pretty bad. While you still have shampoo on his head take one of the soft baby brushes and brush his head. After a week hers was gone. Every once in awhile she gets dry scalp and we just brush it whith the shampoo on it. Hope this helps.

My son had really bad cradle cap too, before we even started starband helmet. Our OT suggested to use tea tree oil shampoo every night and that is what we have been doing. His cradle cap is completely gone. But if you do use it is not tear free.

He has been wearing his band for 7 weeks.

I might try switching your shampoo and body wash to a very mild hypoallergenic variety. We did this when we were noticing some itching and it worked great. We ordered California Baby super sensitive shampoo and body wash. It did the trick. Very mild and organic and unsented. This was the answer for us and we are still using this particular baby line for sunblock, bubble bath , lotion etc. It is wonderful, Californiababy.com or diapers.com or a local buybuybaby or whole foods store. Try it in combo with the other suggestion with brushing the head and see what happens. Tammy Sabs NY

If your son has craddle cap you can use Selsen Blue to get rid of it. I did this with my daughter and it was gone after one wash. If you think it's just itchy from the helmet you might want to try Aveeno babywash for sensitive skin or 's "soothing naturals" hair and body wash. I use the 's brand and I'll shampoo her hair first and let it sit on her head while I wash her body and then rinse the shampoo out last. Good luck.
