Hello Marina!

I am too from Canada - BC that is (near Vancouver). We just got our helmet last Thursday as well for our 10 month old son Nolan. I share in your anxiety and excitement all at the same time. We are sleeping our son in his helmet tonight for the first night. Yesterday we did the naps and now tonight is the all-nighter.

Is Cal's helmet a "custom" one? I too have a hard time knowing what to call Nolan's helmet. I understand that in Toronto they do a scan of your child's head as apposed to a cast-molding process (which is what we had). If it is their own design, the Ortho may have an idea of what your son's helmet compares to with other name brands. My son's apparently compares to the Docband.

Anyways, thought I'd wish you all the best in your journey with this whole process. It's nice to meet a fellow Canadian! :o)

I too have been encouraged by this group. I know I felt a bit alone in this process until I found it!

We just picked up our helmut today from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, (Canada). Cal only had it on for 5 minutes before he started crying and it had slid down over one eye (kind of squishing his forehead down too). I fixed it immediately and smiled at him telling him he is such a lucky boy and bless him he smiled back through his crying. Tomorrow I'll make more of an effort to keep it on him and eventually over the next few days we'll get him napping and then sleeping in it. I'm a little nervous now that I have the helmut but excited too - to see some improvement over the next several weeks that is.Wish us luck and thank you to everyone again for all the encouragement!MarinaI don't know what type you would call this band....it covers his entire head with 4 holes on the top, a long slit opened down the back, hard white on the outside and all foam on the inside. I'll post a picture under the C

section for "Cal"

Hi Shari

Great to hear from a fellow Canuck (even if we are separated by

thousands of kilometers). Cal did have a plaster cast thingy done of

his head and they also gave us a print out of how his head is shaped

and another print out of how the helmet is shaped inside (hopefully

Cal's head shape will be the same as the helmet when we're done).

We have been successful with daytime naps with the helmet on, I'm so

nervous about wearing it at night. How did your first night go? I

bet no problems at all.....the hospital told us how its usually the

parents that have all the anxiety and the babies are fine with it all.

When I asked about how this one compares to others they didn't really

say which one is was like....more about how it differs. I'll post a

pic of Cal (in the C section) with his on....I'm calling him my

little " Storm Trooper " (from Star Wars movies).

Let us know how you made out your first night.

take care,

Marina

Hi Marina!

I'm glad to hear that the naps have gone well so far. It was amazing to me when Nolan slept in his helmet with no problems for nap time. The next day we had his first "all-nighter" in it and I was soooo nervous. Amazingly he did really well. Yesterday it was night #2 in his helmet and I woke up at 4am for some reason, went to check on him and sure enough he had rolled on his tummy and was laying sideways in the crib, helmet off (which was laying on the back of his legs by his feet)!!! I couldn't believe it! This morning, when he woke up from his nap I went into his room and the helmet was laying in the middle of the floor!! Don't ask me how it got there (most likely chucked it out of his crib). He is 10 months old and so far his personality is full of spunk. In some ways it doesn't surprise me because of

that. Yesterday I did notice that the helmet seemed slightly loose, and I was having trouble getting the proper fitting of the helmet. Not quite sure what happened? I get nervous that it is not sitting on his head properly because of this. I feel like not continuing with the sleeping part until it is adjusted. It will most likely end up on the floor anyways. We go in on Monday to see the Ortho to have it adjusted, so that's good. I really hope he won't need a chin strap as he's a Big Boy with lots of chub. It might be even more irritating for him if we get it on.

Anyways, that's how our nights have gone so far. Hopefully your's goes well with Cal. Let us know too how it's going with everything. I love the "Storm Trooper" name! Sooo cute!! I will have to take a look at Cal's photo! Perhaps I will post one of Nolan as well.

Yeah for the Canucks by the way ;-)

Take Care,

Shari
