Guest guest
Welcome! Is the band active or passive? How often do you go in for adjustments? What do you know about the orthotist? Have they treated alot of babies? If you do a search for certain terms in the search window, you may find other parents and what they experienced at that location. Jen and Luli - 29 months Left tort - Right Plagio - Hanger Band Grad - CA http://www.babiesonline.com/babies/j/jens5th/ new.. helmet from u of m (michigan) Hello, I just discovered this board.. My 3rd son born in nov 07, was dx as having plagio (12mm) at 6 months. He is now almost 7 mos (on june 9th). We went ahead and decided to do treatment. We received his helmet yesterday. I was really unaware of this type of problem. we first started to notice his head getting flat at around 3 1/2 to 4 mos. His ped told us to reposition...blah blah ...that did'nt work so at his 6 month check up she referred us to U Of M...we ordered the helmet a couple of days after the appt. we were really unaware that their were other bands/helmets available (doc/ starband). Well now after doing research on here...I'm really worried that his helmet is not going to work as well as the doc/star. anyone with expierence from the U of M? It was custom made (they did the scanner thing not the casting) if anyone has any info on them please share it...We already paid for 1/2 of it $600 our insurance paid for the other half. this seems cheap to me after seeing how much some of you have paid for yours. Of course you get what you pay for...so I am pretty concerned.. next ? I plan on painting it and decorating it with stickers..I see alot of people do paint, stickers and then mod podge? if I do it in this order...am I stuck with the stickers or is there a way to remove them and re do or repaint it? I will post some pictures of him when I get a chance... Thank you, , mom to 7 1/2, Christian 4 1/2 & Chase almost 7 months Stay informed, get connected and more with AOL on your phone. We go for to our next appt on June 27th I guess 4 weeks..They do treat alot of babies and it is the same orthotist that treated my second son for braces on his feet..and that turned out great...so I don't know...what do they do as far as adjustments go? sorry for all the dumb questions but this is new to me...I never even heard of plagio/flat head until now... Thank you Jen <JenandLuli@...> wrote: Welcome! Is the band active or passive? How often do you go in for adjustments? What do you know about the orthotist? Have they treated alot of babies? Guest guest
We had a Hanger band - but adjustment are pretty standard. If there is a foam lining inside the band that will be shaved down at each appt. to allow for growth. Is there a chin strap on your band? I saw a danmar before that had a chin strap. We saw our ortho every 2 weeks at the most... but the 1st weeks we were in there several times to get the fit to be right. It's be great if you could Post pics so we can get a sense of what the band is like. Guest guest
Hi , I saw Chase's picture - so cute. I remember when my daughter had nice chubby cheeks but now she looks so grown up (2.5yrs). I was trying to figure out if Danmar was active or passive so I was looking at old messages. I'm pretty sure it is passive. But the main thing I wanted to mention is that there were mixed reviews on it. I looked back about a year, and two parents were happy with it, but a few (2 or 3?) ended up rebanding with a docband. You might want to check out the old messages (you can search for Danmar in the messages online). Your band may work well, I just wanted to let you know to keep an eye on it. One thing we did was take photos every week or two to track my daughter's progress. If you do something like this you'll know for sure if it is working. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hello, > No there's not a chin strap...I just uploaded a photo...It's under " c " for Chase ... > I don't know how long it takes for it to post.. Guest guest
Hi - I was looking at Chase's photo as well (super cute by the way!), and the reason I now personally think that it might be more passive than active (but can't say for sure) is because the foam liner is so thin. It's even thinner than my son's DOCBand, which is a lot thinner than StarBand, but still gets scraped out at each adjustment. Did they say how long he would wear the helmet? Just from the photo, it doesn't seem like they'd be able to make many adjustments to it before it ran out of foam lining and his head would hitting plastic. Also, I can't remember for sure but did you say you would be going for your first adjustment in 4 weeks (and I assume maybe every 4 weeks after that)? Active bands are usually adjusted every 1 or 2 weeks because the head grows so quickly (for younger babies). My son was older when he started and still only goes every 3 weeks for adjustments. I believe passive bands take less/wider spread adjustments. Again, this is all just from my experiences hearing how other bands work on this board. To find out for sure, I would just call your ortho and ask how the band works and how adjustments are made. Then you can share your first-hand knowledge with us and any other future Danmar helmet users. It would be a big help to us! Thanks!
