Guest guest
I got the report from Nouveau Prosthetics just now. I posted their reports: Photo Albums > Our Plagio Babies I > Isaac's STARScan report and Photo Albums > Our Plagio Babies I > Isaac's bro. Garrick's STARScan report The reports are right next to the pictures of their heads. Can someone help me interpret the numbers? Guest guest
Based on your sons' measurements they both have brachy rather than plagio. Brachy is measured by the Cephalic Ratio which is Cranial Breadth/Cranial Length. Generally the severity is measured by the following: ideal ratio - 78% normal - 73-83% moderate - 83.1% to 87.9% severe - 88% and higher At 4.6 mm for Isaac and 3.7 mm for Garrick the plagio is on the mild side: 0-3 mm is normal <6 mm is very mild 6-10 mm is mild 10-15 mm is moderate 15+ mm is severe Molly Novato, California Nicolas, 2.5, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 5 , 8.5 > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone gone to Nouveau Prosthetics in Hazlet, NJ recently? > > > > > > > I'm a mother of 2 10 months old twin boys. Guest guest
My gosh! I didn't know their brachy is that severe! No one ever mentioned it to me, neither CT's and Purvi (she came in to take a look at Isaac at 's request) nor Joe from Nouveau Prosthetics. Joe even showed me on his computer that Isaac's 96.7% " symmetry ratio. " He said Isaac's head is nearly perfect... I don't get it. The reason that their brachy doesn't bother me as much is that they have a lot of hair: Photo Albums > Our Plagio Babies I > Isaac's side profile in the crib Thank you so much for the info. I'll check with the doctor about their brachy tomorrow. Guest guest
Something to keep in mind when you look at the report and the pictures from the scan, it is captured at one level of the head. With the STARscan report it usually measures at Level 3 which is approximately eye-level (your report should say what level it was taken at; the photo you posted was too small so I couldn't read it). So, if there is any significant flattening above or below this point it won't be captured. The brachy may not bother you from a cosmetic standpoint but down the road your children might have problems fitting into helmets - bike helmets, football helmets, baseball helmets, etc. Eyeglasses might be more difficult to fit because of the added width of the head. Guest guest
Hi , our specialist recommends banding at 90% or higher. So that would make your son's borderline. Normal is about 78%, so 88% is severe, but does not necessarily require treatment - it just depends on how you feel about it. With boys you do need to consider that they may lose their hair when they are older. My daughter was about 96% corrected to 85% after banding. Her head is still not perfect and I would have liked a lower number, but I am okay with her head at this point. At 88/89 I would probably try to band, but it is a tough decision. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Has anyone gone to Nouveau Prosthetics in Hazlet, NJ > > recently? > > > > > > > > > I'm a mother of 2 10 months old twin boys. Guest guest
Thanks, for the tip, I can see it now. It is a Level 3 scan. I have to correct what I said earlier, Level 3 is not eye-level, it is slightly higher. If you look at your STARscan report, in the upper right hand corner there is a side-view of a head and the Level 3 mark is noted with a dotted line (you can't see it on the photos you posted as it looks like the report was cropped). Hope this helps explain it a bit more! Molly Re: Update: I got the STARscanner report from Nouveau Prosthetics. Hi Molly, Thank you so much for your advice. I didn't think about that.
