Generally, treatment is discontinued when any remaining asymmetry is so mild

that it would not require treatment with a band and you are happy with your

infant's overall head shape. While your ortho can suggest to you to

continue with the band it is ultimately your decision to make as they can't

force you to stay in the band if you don't want to.

What type of band is your son in? How long has he been in the band?

Wear time - early removal?

Was anyone able to stop using the band early? Was it prompted by the

specialists recommendation or your satisfaction?

Our ped told my husband that one of his patients stopped wearing early

b/c the parents were satisfied.

We were always told by our ortho that my daughter could graduate when we were happy with our daughters headshape. That being said, why not keep them in the band until they outgrow it if there is more correction that can occur.

We had my son in the DOC band for 8 weeks. He graduated before the band was outgrown. He looks great. I would go with what the ortho tells you. If you want to keep it on longer to see if you can achieve even more correction than do it. We had our ortho cut it one last time on graduation day 12/31/07 and we wore it an extra two weeks without going back for any other fittings. It was not necessary, just something I wanted to do to make sure I felt good about it all. After the two weeks we were done and it came off for good. Tammy

My son has worn a RHS helmet for 6 weeks. I'd like to get the most

correction that we can, but my husband wants to take it off. There

is much improvement of his forehead and the back. If you're looking

down you can still see flatness.
