Guest guest
My daughter, who is now 13 months, has worn her helmet for almost 6 months. We haven't had any problems until about 2-3 weeks ago. She started taking off her helmet and no matter what we do, she won't keep it on. It is not hurting her that I can tell, the only thing different is that she now sweats more due to the hot weather. I have gotten on to her so much now that she takes it off less during the day, but she does it all the time at night (and I don't think that she is uncomfortable as she never complained before). Since she is not a good sleeper, I hate waking her up to put it back on and sometimes it seems like the helmet is off more than it's on right now. Has anybody experienced this with their baby? Is there anything that the ortho could do to the helmet so that she can't take it off anymore? Her helmet only has a velcro strap that she can undo without a problem. I am still hoping for some more correction on her facial asymmetries and so I want her to wear it as much as possible. Thank you,
Guest guest
Hi : We had the same problem with my Grandson. First he learned to open the Velcro and then he simply pulled the helmet (Starband at the time) off his head. It was a combination of an ill-fitting helmet and a more savy baby. Now, with his DOC band we taped the end of the Velcro down with clear packaging tape right from the start. At first he fiddled around with his hand, searching for the end of the Velcro and then, when he did not find it, just left it alone. So, unless the helmet is a bad fit, the packaging tape should do the trick for you. Good luck, Heidrun Aiden's proud Grandma > > My daughter, who is now 13 months, has worn her helmet for almost 6 > months. We haven't had any problems until about 2-3 weeks ago. Guest guest
You can try a barrette, one of those long ones that can clip over both layers of the velcro at the opening, and then she shouldn't be able to undo it. I've been lucky, my son is 21 months old and still hasn't taken an interest in trying to get his band off on his own. But if he does, I'd probably try that first (although I'm sure it will look better on a girl's helmet!). Guest guest
Sorry it took me so long to reply. My daughter is in a Hanger helmet and has not grown much over the past 6 months. I do think that the helmet still fits. She was scheduled to graduate in April, but just didn't grow on her previous curve. So here we are, six months into this and still room for growth. She doesn't have major red spots, nothing that doesn't fade within the hour off, so I don't think that it's uncomfortable for her. We still go for regular adjustments of course and there is still foam that the ortho can shave off. We are going for another adjustment tomorrow and if she can still wear it after that, we will try all suggestions for getting her to keep it on. Thank you, > > > > My daughter, who is now 13 months, has worn her helmet for almost > 6 > > months. We haven't had any problems until about 2-3 weeks ago.
