Guest guest
Yes, the band does look too high to me if you're trying to get correction on the forehead. Please tell us what your ortho says about this. BTW your daughter is adorable. -christine sydney 2 yrs starband grad > > Hi ladies, > > I finally got a picture of posted in the albums (Our Plagio > Babies N...titled P.). > > I have never thought that her helmet fit odd or badly and we are > definitely seeing improvement but after looking at so many other > pictures in the albums, I am starting to wonder if 's helmet > sits too high on her head. Guest guest
Hi Dawn- It does seem high. But my main concern is the statement by your ortho that he wants to " get the forehead pushed back. " From all of my research and what I have been told (by a few people at Cranial Tech), you can't push the prominent areas of the head back into place. You can only hold them in place by providing gentle pressure in those areas, forcing the flatter areas to grow outward instead. The skull will follow the path of least resistance, so by holding the prominent areas in place, the flat spots have nowhere else to go but out, thereby making the head more symmetric and round. But you can't push the prominent areas back in once they've grown out. Take for example babies with brachy, which is extra width in the head and a flat spot on the back. There's no way to push the sides of the head in to make the head less wide, so with a brachy baby, the head will always be wider than it probably would have been had no brachy developed at all. But with a helmet holding the sides and not allowing them to grow out further, you can help the back of the head grow out and improve the overall headshape by making it more round and symmetrical. But in the end, the head will still be wide. Another example is my son's plagio. He had severe forehead bulging to start on his right side. The helmet holds that bulge so that it's doesn't get worse, and allows for the left side to pop out and become even with the right side. It doesn't push his right side in, it will always be out, but with the left side out too, it will be more symmetrical and less noticeable (that doesn't mean that he looks like he has a entire bulging forehead now instead of just one side, it still looks like a normal forehead but is just more even on both sides). So I would ask your ortho exactly what he meant by that. I would be concerned if he believes you can push the skull back into place. Aside from it not being true, that is not how the helmet was made to work. Please let us know what he says. Guest guest
LOL! Too funny! My husband would have said the exact same thing (I'm always having to ask him multiple detailed follow-up questions if I ever expect to get the full story). I'm so glad it was his interpretation and NOT the ortho's, that's at least one thing you don't have to worry about. Whew! Still let us know about the high cut of the forehead. If doesn't have a lot of forehead bossing, it might not be necessary for it to come all the way down, however I've still heard it's important to get it low enough that it acts as a good holding point. I'm still laughing...
