Guest guest
Sorry it's taken me a few days to do this. I just noticed the message. Here is Chloe's story... She was diagnosed with torticollis and plagiocephaly when she was three months old, although we noticed the tort the day she was born. We only noticed it because her older brother, Elijah, also had tort. I kept asking the pediatricians about her tort, but they wouldn't diagnose it until she was three months old. At that point, the doctor referred us to a physical therapist who saw her twice and said her problems were so minor that we should just do a few exercises with her at home. Many months later at 10 months old, the ped said Chloe had delayed motor skills and needed to see a therapist about the motor delays and the other two issues. When we took her to the therapist, she recommended a helmet to correct the plagio, along with weekly therapy for the tort, plagio and motor skills. My husband, Matt, and I were pretty surprised. We had no idea she was bad enough to really need a helmet. Chloe wore a Starband for 5 months and got pretty good correction. These are her before and after measurements: Oblique Diameter went from 8 mm difference to only a 1 mm difference. Cranial Vault went from 10 mm to 2 mm. Parietal to Eye went from 6 mm to 4 mm. Facial Asymmetry went from 5 mm to 2 mm. Cranial Base went from 10 mm to 2 mm. The therapist said a perfect measurement for each of the above would've been 0mm and our goal was to get her to a 3 on each of them. So, the Starband definitely helped Chloe a lot! And it would've helped her even more had her doctors listened to my begging and referred her to a therapist earlier. Although the helmet was a little annoying to clean and I felt horrible that Chloe had to wear it in the 90-degree weather here in SC, it was not that bad at all! I am sooooooooo glad we did it. Just like everyone on this site told me, it bothered me a lot more than it ever bothered her. She got used to it by the second day she had it on. She actually got to the point where she would get upset when we'd take it off. Although that is the whole story of Chloe's plagiocephaly, her torticollis story continues today. I don't want to bore you all to tears with that, but she has a really tough case of tort. She had to have surgery on her neck last December. She is doing a lot better but still tilts every once in a while. Thanks for reading. Good luck to all of you! Please email me at acbredeson@... with any questions you have. I'd be glad to support you however possible because the beginning of this process was so difficult for me. God bless you all, Amy and Chloe PS: I will add a new photo of Chloe to the site. She has changed A LOT since the picture on the home page was taken. That was actually the day she got her helmet, I think. > > Hello Everyone- > > Please welcome our newest Front Page Star...CHLOE! Guest guest
Hi Amy- I just had a chance to read your story. It sounds like the STARBand was a success for Chloe! And she's a beautiful little girl. She wore it from 10-15 months old? How old is she now? I really hope you get the tort issue worked out for good. Good luck with that!
