Guest guest
We used a STARband for my now 6 year old daughter. She had high moderate to severe plagio/brachy. She wore it from age 9 to 12 months with wonderful results. She has pictures under Jenna and STARband. The importance is the experience of the ortho. Angie Re: WWYD -- NYC/long Island Hmm, I certainly thought I WAS getting my son one of the best helmets possible when I got his Starband. I don't think Cranial Tech is the only good provider out there, do you? Lots of people on this board have used Starband and non-CT orthotists and have had great results, right? Guest guest
They originally told me 4-6 months. I think an average time would be 3-4 months. It depends on the severity and age of baby. Also on how fast they grow. I think they do not like to say because parents may be upset if it goes longer than they estimated. I hope this helps. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
The helmets do the same thing. The helmet/band is only as good as the orthotist fitting the helmet/band. You made a good choice in my opinion. I beat myself uop going between the 2 options...starband and Doc. I choose starband in the end, because my son has severe plagio. I could not afford another band if it is needed. The Doc is only for 16 weeks, no exceptions. Good luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
Molly, Do you know where I can get info regarding the maximum length of time a STARband can be worn? We are attending a committee meeting in regards to our insurance appeal tomorrow and that would give us some great ammunition if we can site it. I looked at the STARband website but didn't see it there. Thanks, Amy in NY Plagiocephaly From: mafoley@...Date: Wed, 14 May 2008 19:04:59 -0700Subject: RE: Re: WWYD -- NYC/long Island STARbands are only good for a maximum of 6 months so you won't be able towear it longer than that. From what I have seen, orthos typicallyoverestimate the time in the band, I think so you won't be disappointed ifit takes longer. Our ortho told us my son would be in his band 4-6 monthsand he was in it for 4.5 months (20 weeks).MollyNovato, CaliforniaNicolas, 2.5, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06,Graduate!, 5, 8.5-----Original Message-----From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ]On Behalf Of LangstonSent: 14 May 2008 06:42Plagiocephaly Subject: Re: WWYD -- NYC/long IslandHey Angie! I'm and my son is 8mo old and has a STARband. Do you know the typical length of treatment? The ortho dodged that question and I can understand why, but she wouldn't even say, like 4-6mo or 6-8mo. Guest guest
I don't know the statistics for the STARband but for the DOC Bank only 14.1% of children need a second band. Starting at 7.5 months old should give you good results with moderate plagio. Keep up the good work being so compliant with it :>) Molly Novato, California Nicolas, 2.5, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 5 , 8.5 Re: WWYD -- NYC/long Island Well, 4.5mo doesn't sound so bad when I consider we've already gotten one month behind us. But, I have heard of kids needing a second band. It's not so bad really, I'm just curious. How common do you think it is to have to reband a baby that started at 7.5mo with moderate plagio and tort resolved? We are being very compliant. He wears it 23hrs a day rain or shine. We've missed 2 or 3 days to fever and 1.5 day(s) to a sore spot on head. Other than that, he wears it. *8mo*tort resolved*lft plagio*STARband 4wks Conner*2yrs NC USA > > > > We used a STARband for my now 6 year old daughter.
