Guest guest
what to do...what to do So I went to Scope, the Starband Provider. The eval went well and the Orthotic woman who took care of us was thorough and patient. She took new hand measurements and used the scanner to get a more precise measurement. Now last Friday I went to Cranial Tech and they stated that Bryce's assemetry was at 30mm and he would be in a doc band for 2- 3 months. I was told today at Scope that he is at 18mm assemetry and would need a Starband for 5-6 months. How could the measurements and the duration of treatment be so different? I was already confused and now I just don't know what to do. The lady at Scope explained that CT may have been giving a conservative estimate and that a second band would likely be required. She also stated that the Starbands are a thicker foam and that they last longer, thus not needing a second band. The other dilema is the whole health insurance rat-race. My ins wont cover the band at CT and MAY conver the band at Scope. I think i am going to just pay the money up front and get this " headgear " for my son ordered early next week. I am just so torn. Both companies are good...they just gave me two totally different senerios. I obviously want Bryce in a helmet/band for the least amount and time...but I want the best results. What would you do? Bryce turned 5 months on 5/7. ------------------------------------ For more plagio info

Guest guest
Personally, with the complicated headshape, and severity of asymmetry, I'd go with CT and a DOCband -- but there is a slight possibility that you will need another band depending on growth spurts, etc. as the bands are only good for 4 months, so that is something you may need to keep in mind. My son had a pretty severe scaphocephalic (long and narrow) headshape, and at the time CT was the only provider that had a product specifically for that headshape. I had to trvel from Cincinnati to Chicago every 2 weeks. It was all worth it for us. We probably could have benefited from another band (in his case he never really hit a "growth spurt") -- but our target areas were corrected -- he gained width and also a slope (his head jutted straght back). CT left it up to us to decide on a second band (never pushed for it at all -- just matter of factly gave us the measurements, etc.). He's 8 now, and is doing fine. Does Scope do a lot of starbands? Have they had children with similar severity? mom to Quinn, born 11/99, DOCband grad 10/00>------- Original Message ------->From : bryced2007[mailto:reeby@...]>Sent : 5/9/2008 11:23:53 PM>To : Plagiocephaly >Cc : >Subject : RE: what to do...what to do>>So I went to Scope, the Starband Provider.
