[low dose naltrexone] Getting the dose right...for Crohns

It's a long story but my G.I, prescribed 60-2.5mg capsules with corn starch filler. He did not want me to change my present regieme of 200mg Imuran and 6mg Entocort saying "only one change at a time." I understand and respect having a baseline before going off the existing meds so have held steady even though I know the LDN would work better without the others. I'm a big guy at 6'2" and 250 lbs, by the way. I started at 5mg and gave that up after three days with nausia and 24 hour headaches. Since, I started over with 2.5mg per day. The nausia is gone but I still get the headaches. I go back to see him on Jan. 4th and if I am the same or maybe a little better, I'm sure he will stay in the game and prescibe 1.5mg capsules and then allow me to start tapering off the Entocort as a starter.Any ideas for the headaches? Or will they eventually go away?Dave D.

Hi Dave,

You should adjust the dosage yourself to only 1.5mg. The headaches do go away after time if your dosage is right. I am not certain about corn starch as a filler. I will forward on an earlier chat regarding fillers.

Hang in there

,

Drink a glass of water immediately after taking your LDN. It prevents a

headache for me and many others. It has something to do with LDN and

salts and the need to hydrate. One friend was even having dreams about

water (with her headache) until she started drinking a glass of water

after her LDN.

I put ice on my head if I have a headache and take lots of magnesium. Light exercise (nothing too intense) will help oxygenate the brain . The late Dr.Hans Neiper told us to drink 2 ounces of champagne every couple hours when a new symptom would arise or a migraine. He was strictly against people with ms having alcohol except for champagne from time to time. He said it was actually good for people with ms occasionally. I actually had alot of fun with that one as it is a great excuse to get a bottle of Moet White Star from Costco and say "Cheers" a couple times a year. Seriously, I think you need a different filler. Skip compounds my LDN and uses avicel which I guess is the filler of choice. I know alot of people with ms who are allergic to corn Best, Kathy

Dave,

I'd suggest that the headaches are more likely due to the filler than

the LDN itself. Corn is something that from my reading seems to be one

of the more allergenic things around.

PS Weight has nothing to do with the dose you need.

i don't think I've ever heard of corn starch fillerĀ -i'll have to ask skip but it sounds like a very odd choice. and is right about corn and allergies.CyndiOn Dec 22, 2006, at 5:57 AM, C wrote:Dave,I'd suggest that the headaches are more likely due to the filler than the LDN itself. Corn Starch was used in my first prescription for LDN, but it wasn't a good thing. Terrible diahrrea. That's enough info about that.
