Hi Mandy!

Just thought I would weigh in on your swaddling issue. I swaddled my daughter, Margot, (whose 3 1/2) for a long time and I swaddled my son, Brody (5 months, plagio) for awhile as well. They were both initially completely swaddled as newborns with arms tucked in and then I gradually weaned them off of it with one arm out then another arm and then just the waist down swaddled. I started my son with just one arm out when he was actually pushing out of the swaddle because he likes to suck on his fingers then I weaned him. However, he is 5 months old now and I still use the positioners on either side of him and then a blanket and tuck the blanket in on each side to give him a secure feeling.

In my opinion, you already have enough to handle with the helmet issue. I would personally wait awhile for her to be comfortable sleeping in the helmet. It seems like if she is happy in the swaddle and it helps her sleep then the least we can do is still let her have that a little longer. It seems like either she will eventually start to prefer being out of it and pull out of it or you'll have to gradually wean her. Put I would get her comfortable in the helmet at night first. I would definitely recommend when you do wean her off of it that you use a blanket tucked in so she feels secure. Also, does she have a lovey or stuffed animal she likes at night? If so...great! If not, I would get one and sleep with it one night (so it gets your scent) and that will provide her comfort as well.

Hope some of this advice helps!

i was soo frazzled...ive been surfing the internet on swaddling trying to get ideas to wean her off, and i didnt realize it was such a widespread problem.....ive seen all kinds of things "the cons of swaddling" and "swadling addictions" today im home with daughter trying to get her to nap in helmet with no swaddling...shes been up since 6 and still no nap(im trying off and on throughout the day.....I think its just gonna be horrible till we can get her out of needing that swaddle....because i know the helmet is most important......I guess the next couple weeks will be payback for her sleeping through the night from the day we brought her home(swaddled of course). hopoe you are all well and things are going good for all of you.....i think ill try to make the chat tonight..thanks again!!!!!!
