Hi - I understand exactly how you feel. The first day my little man received his docband I cried all the way home. He did so well though. He was frustrated at CT the day he got his band because they had to keep taking it on and off to re-fit it before we went home. That scared me that he would have issues getting used to it. However, we left it off on the way home so he could calm down and once we arrived home we put it on him and he was fine. He also didn't like the velcro noise so close to his ear so for a few days I would cover his ear anytime I had to take it off. The hardest part for me was keeping him comfortable (temperature) through the night. After two nights I mastered that and ever since he has done just great with it. Now almost 4wks into it I'm used to it and think he almost looks funny without it on. My son uses it as a weapon too. He likes to bop things with his head..including people. :

) I'm in Dallas so I can understand your concerns with keeping him cool. I just dress my son in one piece outfits or shorts/t-shirts with no socks or shoes. He has done well so far..of course we haven't reached our 100 degree weather yet. Luckily I have an automatic start for my car so I can cool it before I get him in. I have heard of an ice pack you can place under their car seat cushion that will also keep them cool. You may want to look into getting one of those. As you know TX weather can be very hot and very humid. As far as what I tell people IF they ask..well I just says he his head was flat on one spot and the band helps to make his noggin nice and round. Most people just stare and smile though. Good luck. I'm sure your little guy will do just fine. Tammy (mommy to Christian, DOCband 04.18.08) - Dallas,

I know it is the right thing but just feel so sorry for the little guy - wearing the band during June, July and August in Houston sounds miserable.I never see any other kids out and about with a band on. I want to be prepared when someone asks why he is wearing the "helmet". Do you have any ideas for an easy explanation in layman's

terms?Thank you so much for any advice.
