Guest guest
Hi - I usually just say that my son has a severe flat spot (whether it's really severe or not is beside the point, if you just say flat spot, they might not understand the big deal) and the helmet is helping round out his head. That would be my short answer. Usually it depends on my mood how much information I want to give out. Sometimes I get into the tort and plagio explanation if they really seem interested, but it's usually just easier to give the short answer to start and then answer any follow up questions they might have. I also tend to get into a pantamime (sp?) display, using my hands and touching my head to explain the shape of his head (flat spot here, forehead bulge here, ears misaligned this way, etc.). Maybe it's the italian in me that just likes to talk with my hands, but the physical display usually helps them understand the severity of it. Good luck with the band next week! Guest guest
Hello , Well, that's because you never saw my little one in Houston then. My son is 7 month old & he's been wearing the helmet for the last 3 weeks. I felt the same way... & still does about him & hot weather in Houston. But he is all the time inside with AC. When I go out, I always have a wet towel to cool him down. He loves it. Also, we bought a little swimming pool since he can sit now. We asked the orthotist yesterday & said that was fine for the helmet to get wet a little. Are you going to the office in the Woodlands? Staff is really nice. I'm answering a lot of question about the helmet when I'm outside. It was bothering me at first but now I'm ok with it. I had a couple of not so friendly comments too from stranger. But I don't care anymore. I'm always short with people who are too curious anyway. Sometimes I even said... well, don't you think it's a nice new fashion look? Most of the time people are thinking he got surgery & he's wearing the helmet to protect the suture... I explained that he has a flat spot on the right side & he has to wear the helmet for the next two months to round his head. Most people are really friendly & nice to talk to. Are you going to decorate the helmet? I'm using clear stickers, I changed theme every week so I think the time is passing by faster... I hope everything will be fine for your little one & yourself. Karine.
