We are an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides information and referral, case management and support, individual and systemic advocacy, parent and professional training, library and information services to New York City parents and caregivers of children with disabilities and special needs and to the professionals who work with them. We update our NEWS ITEMS frequently Save the Date Our 22st Annual SPECIAL CAMP FAIR 2007 FREE ADMISSION Saturday, January 27, 2007 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Church of St. the Apostle 405 West 59th Street in Manhattan (Entrance to Fair on Columbus Avenue near West 60th Street) COME TO THE FAIR · Meet the Camp Directors · Find Summer Programs that are right for your child · Get a FREE copy (one per family) of Camps 2007: A Directory of Camps and Summer Programs for Children and Youth with Disabilities and Special Needs in the Metro New York Area Directory is $25.00 plus $8.00 postage/handling after the Fair. Children are invited to attend, but no child care will be available. Representatives from 70 New York City Day camps and sleep away camps in the northeast will be on hand to help parents and professionals plan productive summer experiences for children with disabilities. Spanish and sign language interpreters will be available. PARENT TRAINING AND INFORMATION CENTER GRANT RECEIVED! Continuing help for parents of children with disabilities and special needs. In July, Resources for Children with Special Needs received its third five-year Parent Training and Information Center (PTIC) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. IDEA (the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) provides for a least 1 Parent Training and Information Center in each U.S. state and territory and Puerto Rico. New York State has 4 PTICs; 3 are in New York City: Advocates for Children of New York, Resources for Children with Special Needs, Sinergia/Metropolitan Parent Center and The Advocacy Center (in Rochester; and its satellites cover the rest of the state).
