Hi ,

My son has a tic disorder. His is caused by a condition called Pyroluria that

causes chronic deficiency of B6 and zinc. It seems to be the lack of B6 that

causes the tics. He is grown now so I am not sure how much B6 he has to take to

control it but when he was younger I gave him 400mg in the morning and 400mg in

the evening. The most bio-available form of B6 is P-5-P and that is what he

uses. Taking high doses of regular B6 can cause side effects but from what I

understand the P-5-P will not cause problems. As an adult, he needs to take

magnesium with the P-5-P for it to work because the magnesium is necessary for

absorption. He did not need the magnesium when he was younger but does now

probably due to poor diet.

Now Foods makes a low dose P-5-P that you may want to start with to see if this

solves your problem. (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?c=1 & amp;pid=740).

I would start at a low dose and work up. If it does not work, try the magnesium

with it before giving up. Too much magnesium will cause diarrhea so go slow with

that also.

Good luck to you,

Olive

I have recently come to the realization that I have had some tics

since around puberty (mostly scrunching up my eyes and nose, picking at my face

and scalp). I never really thought about it much until I saw my son with tics of

his own that he is not able to stop (he touches his nose constantly, even when

it isn't snotty). I realized I can't really stop myself from doing these things,

either.

Does anyone know what the could cause this? I have considered that I

may have been a PANDAS kid but I don't know what kind of testing I

would do on myself at this point (I'm 35). From what I understand from an aunt

there are other people in my family that also had tics--my grandmother' s

sisters and brothers--although I have never met them.

Are such things genetic? Would it be worth it for me to try a few

weeks of Olive Leaf Extract to see if it would help?

Thanks for any advice you can give,
