Guest guest
The reason most people go CF as well as GF is that when broken down, the casein molecule is very similar in structure to the gluten molecule. So, the theory being if you aren't tolerating gluten, you probably won't tolerate dairy either. Both gluten and dairy are on the top 10 high allergan list, so it isn't uncommon not to tolerate them. Soy can be controversial - some folks love it, others avoid it. Good Karma brand makes really creamy non-dairy ice cream substitute. I *think* it is called Rice Supreme. My kids love it. Your child doesn't have to be Celiac to not tolerate gluten. As far as biomedical goes - there are a few good books out there that actually are written by MD's who specifically treat autistic/PDD (among other) kids. They will outline tests, what they mean, why do do them. They will also outline supplements and why you need them and what they do for the body. The first one that comes to mind is " Children with Starving Brains " by Dr. McCandless. I gave my regular pediatrician my copy when we first started out and she " ah ha'd! " it. Dr. Jepson is another one to look for. Folks are also talking about Dr. Bock's book (haven't read it personally). Your dad could read one of the above and probably get a really clear idea of what biomedical treatments are meant to do. Maybe this helps shed some more light on the biomedical thing for you.
