Thank you for letting all of us share our stories of the children who changed our lives. - J. The Story Behind the Web Site During my research collecting stories for the book, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Children with Special Needs, I received a letter from Shari McMahon regarding a chance meeting she had with a woman who like her had a child with a disability. Shari wrote, " We were strangers on the same journey and, because of that, we were not strangers at all. " This got me to thinking, does everyone who participates in raising a chid with special needs connect and bond on such a level so deep and personal and known, though difficult to explain? So I decided to launch SoulSupporter.com, a website dedicated to supporting parents of children with special needs -- where parents could go to share stories, get advice, and connect with other members of their community. I think Guppy, one of our Featured Columnists sums it up best in her first article to fellow SoulSupporters: " So, while on the one hand I'm welcoming you to a sorority of sisters that you never wanted to join in the first place, I on the other hand, welcome you based on the fact that no where else in the world, and with no other group of people, will you be more " welcomed " - than here among your fellow soul supporters. Here, we'll love, we'll laugh, and we'll cry. Here, we'll share stories, and we'll support one another. Welcome. " I hope you find the site useful. Please register and add your comments and feedback to the forums so we can build a site that truly helps you and your community. - McNamara, Co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Children with Special Needs. - Join Soul Supporter Today - Featured Story - Remembering 9/11 Heroes in Our Family There are some moments that we never forget, in days that would otherwise have been quite ordinary. When I was pregnant with my son, my mother and I took my sister's developing relationship with my daughter as evidence of her potential to become the wonderful mother she turned out to be. This was fortified by my sister's instant connection with my son when he was born; the effort she made to find information and resources...
