o The Bergen County YJCC in Washington Township recently announced

the introduction of a new specialty program called " Sunday FUNday " designed

for children, ages 3-8, on the autistic spectrum and those with Asperger's

Syndrome. This is an opportunity for these special needs children to learn

and practice recreational and social skills. The eight-week program will

begin on January 20th; each session will run from 10:30-12:30. For more

o Special Services Advisory Council of Glen Rock is pleased to

welcome Macri, PhD., School Psychologist, Parenting Strategies: How to

Help Your Child Without Losing Yourself on Thursday, January 24th at the

o The next SPEC Meeting will be held at Hackensack Medical Center,

ICD, 30 Prospect Ave, Hackensack (Room Number 241) on Wednesday, January

30th at 7:30 p.m. The topic will be " The New Guidelines and Resource Kit

for Pediatricians for Diagnosing and Treating Autistic Spectrum Disorder " .

Dr. Randye F. Huron, M.D. Chief, Developmental and Behavioral Pediatricians

Director will speak about this topic and answer any questions parents may

have about Autism. (Parking is located under the Child Development Building

Secondary Education for Students Receiving Special Education Services on

o The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, Tenafly, NJ, presents Parent

Education Workshops:

o Tuesday, February 26th, 7:30-9:00 pm, Transitioning: From Early

Intervention - Joy Hammerman of Helpful Hands will discuss the process of

transitioning from early intervention to your local school district, and

will cover the laws and tips on dealing with the CST and evaluations.

o Tuesday, March 4th, 7:30-9:00 pm, The Public School System and The

Special Needs Child - Dr. Edmund Eyerman, formerly a member of the

Ridgefield Board of Education, shares insight into the following areas:

integration, privatization, effects of NCLB, state objectives, federal

intervention, advocacy groups, etc.

o SPAN's 20th Anniversary Conference " Strengthening Families,

Building Communities " will take place on Saturday, March 1st (registration

assist you in preparing for your next IEP meeting! (Must pre-register for
