Bringing Kindness to Communities One Kid at a TimeFeb. 2008

Areyvut's " A Kindness a Day " for Jan. 31, 2008

Get together a group of friends to brainstorm ways that you can actively

make a difference in your community.

" All the charity and deeds of kindness that the children of Israel perform

in this world promote peace and good understanding between them and G-d. "

(Talmud Bava Batra 10a)

Teen Philanthropy Institute

The first meeting for the Teen Philanthropy Institute (TPI) took place on

January 13th at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ. This

program aims to teach Jewish youth about the importance of giving, as well

as providing them with leadership skills and ideas on how to make a

difference in the world on a greater level. There are 24 participants in

this inaugural program, all of whom are interested in positively impacting

the world around them. Students were given a chance to meet one another

through a series of icebreaker games. The day culminated with the group

creating tzedakah boxes and writing thank you notes to the donors who are

graciously sponsoring this program. All participants received a resource

packet as well as a copy of Areyvut's " A Kindness a Day " calendar that will

help guide them through the year. This year TPI will focus on three aspects

of service: Children, Healthcare, and Hunger/Poverty. Throughout the year

the students will learn more about each facet of community service and how

they can be facilitators of change. At the next meeting, which will take

place on February 3rd, the students will learn about unique chesed projects

other teenagers in their community are involved in.

TPI is sponsored by The Jewish Teen Funders Network, The Leonard Rubin

Memorial Fund, UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey, and individual

contributors.

To find out how you can get involved with TPI, or to learn how to bring a
