What's the dosing schedule?Sent from my iPhone

Hello everyone,

Our DAN doctor has recommended starting 200mg of alpha-lipoic acid daily as transdermal cream. Does anyone have any concerns about this as a potential chelator, or any other points they would like to share?

Thanks very much,

Chet

Our DAN doesn't think it is a chelator, she thinks it is an antioxidant. That's

why we have some concerns.

Seems like a lot all at once. Once a day dosing isn't probably the best way to dose ala, which has a very short half life. I'm not sure how much different transdermal vs oral dosing is, but I've always heard that dosing at least every 6 hrs is important and Cutler says every 3 hrs. I have heard of using ala at really low doses, 1x/day, merely for antioxidant and Mito support. I just don't know how the dosing translates to transdermal. Anyone else know?In general, 1x/day dosing of a chelating agent is typically not preferable. Ruth Sent from my iPhone

I would be very concerned about using such a tremendous dose infequently. We

used to dose ALA, 5mg every 3 hours for 3 days straight and saw gains. Many

people do this. It is known as the Andy Cutler protocol. You can read about

this protocol in " Fight Autism and Win. "

Giving large doses of ALA like this is unsafe and could make your son worst,

please do your research. Visit recoveringkids.com The Cutler chelation

protocol uses ALA and should be administered every 3 hours to avoid any

problems. It's important... do your research, we all work so hard to help your

kids, I would hate for this to backfire on you !

Lina - Your doc is correct that it helps build glutathione in the body, which can support natural detox. It is also an antioxidant and supports mitochondria. But, it is important to know that it has the chemical composition of a chelator ( and a very good one for mercury), and should be respected as such. You need to dose it more frequently. There is some differing opinions about how frequently, but i've never heard of docs saying it is safe to dose in large doses once or even twice a day. Do your research. ALA is wonderful, but many think it can cross the BBB, so best to use it as safely as possible.RuthSent from my iPad
