I have been using the large thick file that has the buffer on it more frequently for the nails , so we dont have to cut them as much. He likes the sensory feeling of the light filing and smoothing down.seems to calm him & I count with it on each finger. Electric Tooth brush works for my son, unfortunately he still hates to ve nails cut and will scream the house down!! He was the same wth hair cut but 2mths ago he let me cut it no problemSent from my iPhone

What's the best intervention for a kids who's very afraid of even a sight of toothbrush and nail cutter? It's torture for my son to have his nails (and hair) cut. Good thing he does his own tooth brushing yet not too hard to make his teeth clean.Are you all guys having 40hrs/wk ABA therapy? Oh, it's impossible for us to have it here in the Philippines... so expensive. Thanks!

My son used to scream and completely fight me when I attempted to cut his nails, since a year he allows me to cut them all except for the smaller three toes nails, he screams and fights so hard when I reach these, so I just leave them till he's asleep.It didn't make any sense to me, and thought it was of behavioral origin, until one day I attempted to cut my own finger nails and was extremely irritated, they actually hurt! As if electricity went through them with that trimmer's cut.It never happened to me again, but I never even thought of forcing my kid over a nail cut ever since! Noura

Best thing that happened to me w/this was a friend of mine taught me to sing

w/him when doing nail trimmings....our favorite was Old McD's farm...he got to

pick the animal & we'd make the animal sounds together (mine was verbal...if

he's non-verbal you could possibly have a picture of the animals & he could

point to the animal & you sing). Don't let the nails get to long because it

hurts more...I like the file suggestion (the file tickled my son...he liked the

clipper more....each child is different so just find what works for you).

We also do a " spa " soak (which we find softens the nail & helps relax the body

w/a little pampering...at the $ store we got a round shallow tub & I put warm

water w/all natural bubble bath (I also include a little epsom salts). We trim

the nails singing together then I rub them w/an all natural oil in a foot

massage....
