Can anyone offer any help, my son is on the ASD spectrum with apraxia, he is

detoxifying from gluten and he is stimming like crazy, how long does this

last. I am going to make a phone appt with kelly dorfman but anything I could do

in the mean time, I read an article how high protein diets can cause this,

seeing as carbohydrates and serotonin go hand in hand, this is so confusing.

My son was not doing this much when he was eating lots of carbs so I know this

has some affect on him. This is the hard period, when will it get better.,

How long has he been without gluten? When did the increased stimming start?

Did you take him off gluten " cold-turkey " or have you gradually reduced

the amount of gluten over time?

Have there been any other changes in diet or supplements?

It is very confusing and I hate the hard periods. I get so

stressed. I was thinking from your post, if you are feeding your son

lots of protein all of a sudden and he is reacting negatively,

perhaps he has an issue with ammonia. There are kids with autism

who do have probelms with high ammonia and need to be on low protein

diets. Just a thought.

We had a pretty easy transition off of gluten without too much

protein (an accidental thing I did that lucked out) and I do recall

an increase in obsession with music and water but it did not last

long. If ammonia is your deal they talk about ways of dealing with it

on Stan kurz site.

The food journal helps a lot. A local mom saw her child actually get

suballergies when gluten was reintroduced. I have found my kids

eating less of something that we later found to be not good for them.

Do what you can until the appointment slow and steady. You have time

so read up on stuff and you will get more intel. Try to read the

yeast books mentioned here. Very helpful. We have a gluten thing and

aluminum thing but the yeas t thing is there for sure. I finally got

the courage to do the testing so I'll post results when we know. Hang

tough. Marathon, not a sprint, remember:)
