my son will be 7 in May. He has been diagnosed with apraxia and AP

for about a year now. He sees a private speech therapist 2x a week.

He has improved in leaps and bounds with his speech in the year's

time he has been seeing this private speech therapist. He also has

asthma, and dust mite allegies. He has always been my hyper,

energetic always on the go child. Everyone always knew he had adhd

because he was sooooo hyper. we put him on medicine about mid way

through kindergarten to help him focus. He has been on probably 4-5

meds in the last year to calm him down and to get him to focus in

school. Recently his speech therapist introduced us to the

Occupational therapist and they don't think he has adhd. He has

multiple sensory issues, which is very easily mis-diagnosed as adhd.

He smells everything. books, paper, desk, chairs, anything he picks

up, the floor, blankets, walls. this has always drove me crazy and

is driving his 1'st grade teacher crazy as well. he has always

walk/ran on his tip-toes since a toddler. does this less now but

still at times i will catch him running up on the toes. he is very

impulsive, fidgets, always on the go, hates loud noises and big

groups, stays to his self if a large group is around, falls into

things constantly, flip-flops his body constantly falling, rolling,

has always had trouble using scissors, writing any small motor

skills, has trouble with more than 1 thing to do at a time. his

handwriting is still like a preschool just starting to write. It

takes him longer periods of time to read a book or finish work at

school. It is so hard for him to focus in the classroom with so many

distractions for him going on. They finally started the evaluation

for occupational therapy and i am sooo eager to get him started in

OT. I hope this will help some with school and his work.

I am still new to the sensory issues, so if any one has any

suggestions please feel free to let me know how to help him with any

of this.

I have read about special diets, diary free, and

fish oils. is this something i need to check into for him? He loves

cereal & milk, snacks on cheese all the time. it would be sooo hard

to take him off of diary but it would be worth it if it would help

him.

is there any sites on the internet where i can check

out special diets and foods for sensory issues? Sorry this is so

long. Please send me any suggestions or sites to look at that you

think will be of help to us. Thanks a lot,

kathunter
