The National Association of Community Health Centers has a high standard of excellence and a reputation for presenting quality education programs. The 2007 Farmworker Health Conference abstract proposals are reviewed by senior professional staff and selected based on the relevance of the topic to NACHC’s membership as well as the presenters’ expertise and presentation experience. Abstract Submission Deadline: December 4, 2006 Authors will be notified of decision: Mid January Formatting Guidelines: Please submit an abstract of no more than 100 words that describes the main objective of the proposed session and three learning outcomes. Make sure your materials have been edited and proofed and that any graphics are already embedded in the document or presentation. NACHC National Farmworker Health Conference places a strong emphasis on providing attendees with diverse education and training opportunities. Education workshops are geared to various experience levels and are enormously popular features of the conference. The education workshops are divided into six principle categories for submissions and presentations: Outreach/Social Service: Discuss effective methods and tools for informing farmworkers about health center services, providing health education, and increasing utilization of health center services. This may include understanding various farmworker country of origin cultures, the use of promotoras, culturally and linguistically competent staff, and off-site or mobile delivery of care. Collaborations: Discuss successful collaborations with other farmworker service and advocacy programs, including migrant labor, migrant housing, Head Start, education, and legal services. May include partnerships with Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), primary care associations, other rural health programs, universities, health departments, foundations, and corporations. Governance Track: Discussion of trends in and effective approaches to health center governance, as well as legal and regulatory issues related to boards of directors of health centers specifically or non-profits in general. Example: “Effective strategies for successful board meetings” Management Track: Discussion of effective approaches to health center management, use of innovative technology, successful problem-solving, partnership development, human resources management, managing growth, etc. Example: “Emergency Preparedness and disaster recovery” Clinical Track: Discussion of approaches to effective, high quality clinical management of patients. May include recruitment, training and retention of clinical staff, use of clinical guidelines and peer review, supervision & protocols, tracking systems, information management, outcomes documentation, malpractice risk reduction, outreach and cultural competency for special populations. Example: “Use of HIV Rapid Testing in Health Centers: Several Case Studies” Policy Track: Updates and analysis of legislative and regulatory policies that impact the health care environment and centers. This may include macro trends in the health care industry and recent research and studies with implications for centers. Example: “The impact of immigration reform and access to migrant health services” Leadership Track: Discussion of strategies and tools to assist with leadership development. This may include grassroots advocacy, management styles, organization development. Example:” Situational leadership” Broad topics for focus within the tracks should be: Trends: · America’s Changing Agricultural Labor Force · The Immigrant Debates and Implications for Migrant Health · Health and Safety in the Fields · Environment and Health Linkages.
