Guest guest
OK, I am so ready to blow! I went into this trans meeting (from EI to prek)all prepared and was completely blown away by them! I am a sped teacher so I know what needs to be done, but what they said I couldn't believe (even after I told them I was a sped teacher!) They didn't have me sign the perm to eval (b/c that starts the 60 day time line - my son will be 3 in Jan, they don't have much time anyway!) Then the woman in charge for the school said that if he qualifies for speech services, they'd have an itinerant teacher (sped teacher just like me, NOT an SLP) work w/ my son. I had her clarify what she said. Then I told her that if my son does qualify for speech services, I will do everything I can and know how to get him a SLP to work w/ him at the school! The lady said she'd " alert the principal " . For what? To be on the lookout for a pain in the a** mom who only wants what is best for her child?! I also made it known that I am only looking for walk-in ST. I am not looking for anything else! I told her we don't want him to be at the local HS, that we will send him to the same prek my girls went to. She mentioned that they have an itin. teacher that could go there (again w/ the itin teacher!). I explained that we would bring him to the school for his ST! As I said, I am blown away right now. I've already put calls in to the SLP that I work w/ and my own sped supervisor where I work. Thanks for the venting!
