Genetics at Columbia University--the good, the bad, the ugly

The Good:

We met with a counselor who seemed to have all the time in the world.

She was very nice, as was our Dr. a seasoned professional. Based on

history they came to the conclusion that both kids, the NT one and

the speech kid, have no major genetic issues. The milk issue is

significant and they are testing for a specific problem on that one

usually, but not always caught at birth. Both kids have low tone.

News to me as NT kid has awesome core strength and is very physically

gifted. Thing is, if holding your hand and wanting to pull you away

toward something she will pull with her entire body and not her arms,

same as her brother, who has obvious tone issues. I asked if the skin

stuff is genetic or related to nutrition reminding him that my kids,

healthy in the context of what he sees, require a lot of food and a

special diet to maintain this health. His response was it is genetic

and raises concerns about the heart and eyes for both kids that he

wants me to follow up on.

The Bad:

Why did it take this, my seventeeth mainstream Dr. to diagnose low

tone. He mentioned he thought it was related to 's speech (you

think?) He did a handful of tests, not nearly the # warranted and I

said nothing. I was very passive at this appointment because I wanted

to know if my kids thing was nature. In many ways I was praying it

was, rather than nurture/environment. If these come back negative, as

he suspects, he is done with us. No guidance on nutrition, if we can

safely take omegas, etc. No worries on his part that both kids

practically have Ricketts and I can't find a safe way to get calmag

in them.

The Ugly:

That was the dirtiest place I have ever seen. There was blood all

over the cloth chairs at the place where they drew blood. Just one

example. Oh, and there are mostly offices and not exam rooms. Like

going to the doc at a business office. Very strange, very academia

where they study disease, watch it grow and turn a blinnd eye. I

could just as easily have been on the highway watching 6 guys look at

a pothole while one tries to fix it.

I will continue monitoring my kids in the mainstream and praying for

answers.
