ASD means Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am working in an early childhood

classroom with children who have been diagnosed with Autism. These

children are 3-5 years old. Early intervention is so crucial, and

every parent should take advantage of this free service. In many

states you have the right by law to receive this free service through

the school district when your child turns 3. In some states your child

can even start school as early as 1 1/2 years of age. We had one boy

in our classrom who attended regular kindergarten last year and is in

a regular first grade classroom without support (no resource room or

1-on-1 aide) currently. Another boy just started half day pre-school

and only comes to our class in the afternoon. One of our boys is (or

better say was) totally non-verbal. Some months ago he said " hi "

during a song for the first time, some weeks ago he said " mama " during

speech therapy, and now he says more than 10 additional sounds each

time we do a song with the letters of the alphabet. So, you see: THERE

IS HOPE!!! Just have your child tested for any kind of disorder if

he/she does not speak.
