Guest guest
Apraxia Network Meeting Notes 2/13/08 Jeanne Buesser opened the meeting at 7:20pm. March 5th will be the next meeting. Don't forget about checking out the abilitiesexpo.com website. Jeanne's talk was postponed to next year for the abilities expo. She introduced Dr Eisenberg a ear, nose, and throat specialist from Englewood. He spoke about parents two wanted to have their apraxic children under go tonsillectomies and adnoidectomies to cure their apraxia. Dr Eisenberg stressed that these operations should only be performed for medical reasons such as overly enlarged tonsils that restrict air flow, and continually infected tonsils and/or adenoids. He mentioned that these operations are not dangerous, and have few side effects. Many children have significant better health after the operation, but tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies are not cures for apraxia, per se. Dr Eisenberg spoke about some children who suffer from disturbed sleep patterns, causing them to be lethargic during the day. Their school work suffers as a result because of inattention and sleepiness at school. He commented that some children with ADHD are bed-wetters. After the first hours of his presentation he took questions from the floor. At 8:40, Jeanne thanked Dr Eisenberg for his informative talk. He can be contacted at ENT and Allergy Associates, 177 North Dean St, Englewood, NJ. (201) 567-2771 or Hackensack, NJ office at (201) 883-1062.
