Guest guest
A friend wants to start a Stan Kurtz type of School for ASD, Apraxic and other learning delayed kids with some typical kids as well. She wants to address diet and therapy in a setting that initially addresses the ages 2-5 crowd. She is a teacher and a counselor and is dealing with the $$ but I promised I'd ask those in the know what they would want out of such a school. Any thoughts? Guest guest
This is a GREAT idea! I wish somebody would open up a school for even older kids, say all elementary aged children. I would consider sending my son a to a special school like this, but he is seven years old. Jule **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Guest guest
This is in the pipedream phase but the goal is Central NJ, to keep it affordable and eventually make it for the older kids as well. There would be typical kids there and it would be sort of run Montessouri style in that there is no one grade, teamwork, modeling, etc. It is an enormous undertaking in its infancy because the goal is to help each individual child. Like I said, pipedrea, Wuth that said, last year it was a pipedream that my son would understand us, not be in pain, would eat well, and would speak. We have all of that and he is not eve 3. We are far from out of the woods with him but you know what, I am at the point where dreaming is allowed. I am sick of kids, all kids, not getting what they need. With our kids it is personal. Anyone who knows me knows I would not last 5 minutes in an IEP meeting. I don't do well with beaurocracy. With that said, I am a big fan of the right schooling and understand the things that get in the way of our kids and most kids getting it. It is not one thing so rather than try to attack that a more reasonable goal is to start an alternative. So, when my friend mentioned this idea, I told her I would help. If Stan Kurtz can do it then other can too. > This is a GREAT idea!
