Guest guest
The Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker (MSFW) Immunization program is part of the Immunization Program at the NYS Department of Health. We provide free vaccines to adult MSFWs in our state (administered through our Federally Qualified Health Centers as well as private doctors). We are targeting adults because children are well immunized under the Vaccines for Children program. We have found a lack of materials available to educate the adult MSFWs on the necessity/ benefit of immunization, so we have been developing our own. We would like to utilize peer-to-peer education and in-camp education to get the message out that immunizations prevent loss of health, loss of income, etc. We will have some materials available shortly and would like to use them (and a curriculum) to educate the MSFWs. We are specifically interested in any existing Promoto/a or other peer-to peer programs in New York State. We are aware of outreach work in our Health Centers, but not of any formal Promotora association. Does anyone know if there are programs in our state? If so where and whom should I contact?
