Guest guest
Janice, Thanks for asking. I too was relieved to see that you son is a little bit older. Blood pyruvate I believe is an excretion from the cells that has to do with energy production in the mitochondria. It does not have anything to do with blood glucose to my knowledge, but I will ask my sister in law who is a med tech in a genetics lab. She is very knowledgeable. Annie has never had any dietary problems, except that oreos make her crazy. She will not eat them. They even scare her. She has global dyspraxia, but to have someone put that into words has been nearly impossible. I have finally concluded that given that she fits every symptom just about. She has strabismus, wears glasses, and has done vision therapy. She had low receptive speech, so we did 4 rounds of TLP, and it really helped alot. She loves for us to read her chapter books, and absorbs all that she hears. Her reading is at third grade level, and the school is doing fast forWord, so no expense to us. I have been pleased with this program. We use the Speech from school, and have them send homework. We do this 5 days a week now, but used to do this 8 times. The PT sends work as well, and we do this often. I think all of this has helped, and we have done this for many years. Not to mention private speech and OT many times over the years. Annie is in special education, but she does well, and I continue to have great hopes for her. She amazes my husband, and I with her knowledge. I am going to move forward with the vitamin E, and ProEFA. The doctor hasn't mentioned them, but I will discuss them with him next time. Thanks for the support. It's greatly appreciated. I'm new so you'll probably be hearing alot from me. Jo Janice <jscott@...> wrote: Jo, By blood pyruvates are we talking about blood glucose levels? Sorry, my medical terminology on this is weak. If so, then Mark's level was at a .9 after a 12 hour fast! While it was not diabetic, it certainly was very, very high. We are also taking L-carnitine as well as a host of other vitamins. I am so, so happy to see another older child in the group! YEAH!!! We definately need to share war stories and 'where we are at' to determine the best course for our kids. Note that Mark was also low in glutathione, low in sulfates, vitamin A, Omega 6 fatty acids (not 3), COQ10. He was high in trans fats and also tested high in Lead. We have normal results in iron, Thyroid and need to test hemoglobin and auto-immunity. I meant to do this weeks ago but I just have not gotten to it.... We are casien free as well as no artificial colours, dyes, flavours and no MSG. This seems to be working the best for us. We also do digestive enzymes with each meal with good success. As far as therapies go, I take Mark to NACD like many of the gang here. But at NACD we do a wide assortment of therapies. We did not do fast forward but did do digit spans and worked with Mark's auditory memory extensively to affect his language. We do daily exercises designed to strengthen his body core, his hands, his flat feet (his ankles are beginning to pronate over time.... yuck.... just another problem I don't need), and we do loops with audio books(using headphones) to work his writing speed. Mark spent a few years in special education (grade 4-6) but is back in mainstream education after a 1.5 years with NACD under his belt. Does your daughter have global dyspraxia or just apraxia of speech? Note that I have really found that nuts given to Mark throughout the day really help with his energy production. When I supplement his L-carnitine, I supplement his Borage oil and CLO at the same time. The L-carnitine helps the body absorb the EFA's more efficiently. How is your daughters absorbtion? Tell me your 'story'...... Would love to hear it! Nice meeting you and welcome to the Group. Janice Mother of Mark, 13 [sPAM]Re:[ ] Re: Hijacked list - (was Tanner) We've been seeing a neurologist for several years. She has only had 4 big blood tests in this time. 1.) Blood Pyruvate was high 2.)Blood Pyruvate was high 3.)After beginning B-Complex 50mg Blood Pyruvate was normal, and 4.)Blood Pyruvate was high again when she had a serious flu. The doc, who is actually a metabolic geneticist said that her elevated blood pyruvate would have been ignored by most doctors. The norm is .03 to .08, hers was .12, .11, .03, .11. They are waiting for the remainder of the amino acids to be returned, and will increase her dosage to a prescription level. The L-Carnitine was his suggestion, and has made her very happy and easier to understand. She has only been on this for 1 month though. Pronunciation is her biggest problem, definite motor planning issue. Her vocabulary is good. The B-Complex has made her healthy. She used to catch everything and did not recover easily. B-Complex is water soluble, and is good for most people. She had not been sick for 4 years, until last week. B-Complex was started 4 years ago. The L-Carnitine helps with the production of energy within the cells. They believe the high blood pyruvate is a sign that her energy production is not normal. A typical person would not have an elevated blood pyruvate when they are sick. ilizzy03 <lizlaw@...> wrote: Can you please tell me about how one knows to do L Carnitine. tested fine initially (in May) but we have had a lot of changes since then and plan to retest. I can't recall though if this is one of those things where blood levels don't show all. Please understand I would only do this under a mainstream physicians care so I am not asking you to be my doc. > > Janice I am new to this website, but you have just described my 12 year old daughter perfectly. Only just recently the neurologist noticed iregularities in her blood work. We have been tested many times.
